To anyone who may have been through this course can you please tell me if many people had dropped out by the end of Michaelmas? I tried to switch there and there were no places for me (pissed me off as I was sure someone would have dropped out by now). I'm trying to switch from Maths and English (which I actively dislike). What would you guys do in the limbo period?

    Many thanks,

    Hal

There were a handful alright. But it's strange that the course is full, especially this year with the lower number of students.

If you're sure it's what you want to do, perhaps sit in on the lectures (but keep going to your maths lectures just in case) until you know for sure that you can switch. You can pick up a timetable outside the science faculty office. Make sure your subject combination is workable though.

You'll miss out on labs, but I don't think it'll be that big a deal, not for first year anyhow. However, tutorials are pretty big so I doubt you'd be noticed there (aside from Geology).

yes there should be/are places in the course free.

Do you have the CAO points, I presume you do.

You missed a lot of labs perhaps that's preventing you from transfering. Have you spoken with your tutor? The educational officer?

The deadline is january anyway is't it? I knew a girl doing bess and that is when she transferred to science. Labs are important sure but less so in JF. If you did 2/3 subjects you will choose in the LC you should have very little trouble catching up (as long as you apply yourself as much as the other people who pass do).

My advice anyway would be to keep pestering, and to go to see people in person if possible. An email can be ignored, somebody standing there cannot be so easily. Best of luck
