    Hi,

We're looking to do maybe 3 weeks along the East coast in Aug/Sept of next year and we (well, I) are kinda blind to the options available. So I've come up with a few questions :D

    1. What would you do for 3 weeks? We were thinking Orlando - 2 weeks and NYC 1 week? But if anyone has a better suggestion then that'd be great!

    2. Would you hire a car? Apparently you won't need one in NYC but will do in Orlando?

    3. Any agency you've found to be good for price/helpfulness/products.

    4. Any other advice would be good - we aren't set on those dates and/or those locations. All we know is that we wanna go to America next year :o

    Please help :)

I would wait a few weeks and go in mid-September. American schoolkids and college students go back after Labour Day (Sept 3rd in '07) so you can avoid a lot of the hordes of screaming kids in the theme parks down in Orlando - or anywhere else for that matter.

Also, it should be a little bit cooler. August on the East Coast is hot and sticky as Satan's underpants.

If you want a car, try Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I wouldn't be too sure about having one in Orlando.

    Hi there,

We spent 2 weeks in America late August 2005.We flew to Boston for 1 night, hired a car and took our time driving to New York(stayed there a few nights)...got a train down to Washington for a few nights...then got the overnight train to Atlanta...truely amazing trip...especially the trains...(check out amtrak)
Driving was no hassle especially since we asked for gps..Hertz do it.
And dont forget south east coast in late Aug/September has it's hurricaine season!
Hurricaine Catriona hit while we were there but thankfully didnt affect our trip as we werent that far south...but Florida would be!

Do ya mind me asking how much it cost (even roughly)? I've been ringing round and I'm looking at between €2000 and €2500 pp for the trip.. which was a bit of a shock tbh :o I guess I have at least 10 months to save for it though :)

It cost around 4,500 altogether for the two of us and that included spending money..yeah it sounds steep but for us anyway it was the trip of a lifetime and worth every penny...we organised ours very late so with 10 months to plan you could get things cheaper especially the flights ...and have time to save...
We booked one way dub to Boston, and one way home new york to dublin-worked out cheaper than dub new york return (coz of flight home paid in dollars-all done on aer lingus website)
We booked our rail online with amtrak, car online with hertz, flight one way Atlanta to new york over the phone with Trail Finders in Dublin. And our accommodation was booked online also ..we picked based on reviews of hotels on trip advisor.com
    Happy holidays whatever you decide!
