Etiquette showing cards

Last night in the Fitz DC. All folded to a player on the button who moves in. The SB is thinking about calling when the BB calls out of turn. The SB thinks some more and eventually folds showing 10's.

At this point the dealer reprimands the sb for showing his cards. Not that he's breaking a rule I think more that it's bad etiquette. According to the dealer one of the hands may be needing a 10 and this reduces their known outs (or reduces their hopes). Is this standard?

I was at this table (seat 3), and I think Dennis was a bit OTT the way he put it, but in general I agree with him. I really do not like knowing if someone folded an A when I have AK vs QQ for example. I know it makes no difference to what actually comes up, but you might as well turn to the player and say 'ha, you're fooked'. Say it after the hand if you need to by all accounts.

I think Dennis put it wrongly though and got overargumentative about it, but then again he hadn't slept in well over 24 hours.

As a player at the table I'd like to know how tight the SB is that he'd fold TT when a button raiser goes all-in (depending on the context of stack sizes etc.) so to be honest I wouldn't be happy to have the dealer reprimanding the guy for giving away this information. The dealer wouldn't do this to a regular imo so he shouldn't do it to an unknown face.

I don't think the SB did anything wrong. Different story annoucing what you folded when you weren't in the hand just to tell a guy he has less outs I'm not a fan of that at all but the SB in this case is revealing quite a bit of info about himself and kind of saying that he'd probably have called the all-in but now the BB has pushed he thinks he should fold TT. It's not like he's seen the other cards and is then reacting he's showing that in his opinion he had a tough decision and that he's making a big laydown or something, I like to encourage this sort of thing all the time.

Dennis is a good guy but he has a gamble side to his own playing style so he hates seeing that his "outs" are reduced so its probably a pet peeve of his and combined with tiredness probably contributed to the situation as Dom has said. All a bit unneccessary imho.

(FYI When playing with Denis I lke to tell him i folded a pair of his outs if possible just to give him a bit of needle - its mainly good natured you understand!! lol :p I never tell him if I actually have folded some of his outs as I don't like it being done to myself)

Did the BB have a monster btw?? I hope he did and cost himself some chips as a result of his rash actions!

This hand was I think only the 4th hand at the table. Action went like this:

    Blinds 25-25
UTG raises to 200 I have never seen this player before so had to credit him for some bit of savvy somewhat at the time.
Button, terrible player, goes all infor 1750 or so.
SB is thinking, and in the meantime UTG says call. There was no player in the BB seat this hand. SB then says fold and folds his TT face up, causing the hoohaa.

Eventually cards are turned over. Button has AKo, and UTG?............

QJ (can't remember if suited or not).

Flop comes AAx, turn is T and everyone starts laughing somewhat, river rag and AK holds up.

Agree about the dealer. he was way OTT. He launched into that guy straight away but I left that out as it wasn't my main point. I'd just never heard that issue raised before.

From my point of view it's the opposite, I like to know what shape I'm in ASAP. I don't mind at all when people tell me.
