Weird behavior with Wharfedale box this morning

    Hi,

I noticed when I got up this morning that my Wharfedale box wasn't displaying the time (or rather, the time -2 hours, as it does after each night!). I tried turning it on with the button on the unit but it just showed a number 8. I unplugged it for a few minutes, re-plugged it in and still no joy. Finally, I tried the on/off button on the remote and eventually it seemed to reset itself and worked as per normal.

I know that each night, the unit looks for a firmware update (can't figure out how to switch that off - the manual's instructions don't seem to work) so I'm wondering if RTÉ did transmit something last night that confused the box? Has anyone else with a Wharfedale box in Dublin noticed this?

I thought it might have been the commencement of additional DTT channels but it doesn't look like it.

It would be highly unlikely that the DTT test has a hidden update channel/stream a la The Engineering Channel on Freeview in the UK. Its not a full commercial service, and we are not meant to have boxes yet.

On that note, I wonder does any RTE Technical folks venture in here to see how other people that are not part of the trial are getting on in relation to signals etc?
