How does one go about turning an opaque pencil drawing into a transparent pencil drawing that you can colour behind? There's a lot of pencil on the page and various shades of grey that i want to keep, and ive no clue how to go about making the whiter bits invisible.

You can't do it perfectly but changing the layer blend mode of the pencil drawing to multiply will work a bit. The best route is to digitally ink onto a new layer.
