Recurring word issue that does my head in

Sometimes when typing a word document and I go back to fix a typo my corrections gobble up the word in front. And then sometimes it doesn't do this and it just shunts the next word/letters along as I type new ones. I MUCH prefer the latter. Why does the first way even occur? It does my nut in having to hit return and then lots of backspaces!

Next time you go to do a correction, hit the "insert" button on your keyboard and see if that helps?

Yep, that could be it. I believe its called Overtype (OVR shown along the menubar at the bottom where the page number, section, column is shown). Insert will turn that on or off you will see.

It's more commonly called "replace mode" outside of Word, fyi.
