    Villian checked.
    Mellor checked.

    Dealing turn.
    8c 9c 8d 3h

    Villian checked.
    Mellor checked.

    Dealing river.

Don't check the flop every time you miss. There's no reason for you to believe he has flopped anything. Also don't raise the river. Just call.

I figured he missed the flop too. But was probably ahead
Trying to put him an a hand. Strong ace or king?
But by the river, im not so sure

Raising UTG with avg hand is not clever. Checking flop after he's checked tells him you have nothing. No continuation bet after the flop means you dont know whether he has anything.

    Repeat mistake on Turn

No point in betting river at this point.

Don't raise river, you've a marginal hand after letting the villian see 2 free cards. As played, its a definite fold. What do you expect to beat? A worse kicked on the Q? Fullhouse/straight/trips/overpair/pair,better kicker are all beating you here.

Don't raise utg with QJo, its value at this level is as a drawing hand, not as top pair. As played bet the flop and fold to any resistance on the flop or turn. If just flat called check the turn/river.

I would seriously recommned not trying to read people or their betting patterns at this level without serious notes.

I also found 10 ring easier at this level, more conducive to robotic ABC over aggro poker.

Are you suggesting that I flat call with QJ when only four players.
In a full game i'd play it diferently. There were four players including me. QJ is above average shorthanded.

i'm not defending my play. I know I played it bad post flop. And river raise was not great either.

Preflop raise is fine. You are 3-handed? You are on the button, I'd raise with that at a ten handed table if there was no sign of much interest.

Bet on the flop. Even if he has a K or an A he'll find it hard to call. If he calls, lock up shop. If you get to the river, call any normal bet but as the others already explained, don't raise.

That kind of thinking will get you stacked at 2/4c :/
