Great to see Hickie in the squad.

Like you said, Dave, hopefully Eddie will give some of the newer lads a start against PI and includes those who do well in the games against the two others. Irish rugby seems to be peaking at the moment and I'd be very disappointed if you don't get a result against either SA or AUS.

good as he is....i think its a bit early for luke fitzgerald to be in the squad to be honest....he hasn't had any heineken cup experience yet soo international might be too far at the moment.......still you never know

There's a lot to be gained by being part of the squad, but you should never call players up that you've no intention of using. I'd like to see some more options on the wing. Also don't think it's worth changing too many players at once.

Put Isaac Boss in with a decent back line, to see what he can do, similar with Staunton / Wallace

I reckon John Kelly will just be holding tackling bags.

i still worry about the quality of our props , particularly with a world cup coming up, where we will play both Argentina and France !

Does anyone know what has happened to Tom Court ?

Is he injured, or just not getting game time for Ulster ?

IIRC he had a good Churchill Cup.

He's not injured as far as I know. He was involved in the recent Irish training squads in the absence of Hayes and Best.

But for both Ulster and Ireland he's probably off the pace. The preferred combination at Ulster will probably become (once again) Young at LH and Best at TH once Best fully recovers.

They actually have a solid set of props up North, in contrast to everywhere else.

Paddy Wallace on the bench ! WTF ?

I was happy enough to take at face value news of his rehabilitation at the end of last season & Churchill Cup.

Then I watched Llanelli & Regan King take short cuts through him last weekend. This bias against GP players will be EOS's epitaph.

To be fair, it's not as an Irish outhalf, anyone will expect Wallace to tackle anyway, we haven't had an outhalf who could tackle since the game went pro.

IRELAND SQUAD (v SOUTH AFRICA, Lansdowne Road, Saturday, November 11):

    Forwards (12):

    Neil Best ( Belfast Harlequins/Ulster)
    Rory Best (Belfast Harlequins/Ulster)
    Simon Easterby (Llanelli)
    John Hayes (Bruff/Munster)
    Marcus Horan (Shannon/Munster)
    Denis Leamy (Cork Constitution/Munster)
    Donncha O'Callaghan (Cork Constitution/Munster)
    Paul O'Connell (Young Munster/Munster)
    Malcolm O'Kelly (St. Mary's College/Leinster)
    Frankie Sheahan (Cork Constitution/Munster)
    David Wallace (Garryowen/Munster)
    Bryan Young (Ballymena/Ulster)

    Backs (10):
    Isaac Boss (Ballymena/Ulster)
    Girvan Dempsey (Terenure College/Leinster)
    Gordon D'Arcy (Lansdowne/Leinster)
    Shane Horgan (Lansdowne/Leinster)
    Geordan Murphy (Leicester)
    Brian O'Driscoll (Blackrock College/Leinster) (capt)
    Ronan O'Gara (Cork Constitution/Munster)
    Peter Stringer (Shannon/Munster)
    Andrew Trimble (Ballymena/Ulster)
    Paddy Wallace (Ballymena/Ulster)

I dunno...hard to tell isn't it, I think Gleeson and Hickie should be included, but at who's expense. If Ed is really talking about getting a squad together for the World Cup Heaslip and Barry Murphy need a look in too. It's exciting that we have so much competition for wingers, centres and flankers...yet so little for Props or the outhalf pairing. I mean Frankie isn't really an option as hooker either! It is a good sign that Boss, Wallace and Rory Best have been included.

Eddie has had a very good career, but is that not just because we have so many talents on the team, I mean Munster winning the HC, Ulster the CL, and Leinster in the quarter finals and CL runners-up, maybe Eddie's just lucky and if we had a better manager we'd have made more of these talents???

Judging by the AUS line-up against Wales this weekend, they are trying something new and blooding some second-line players.

What are the odds of EOS trying something similar  ?
