HIP HOP SUPERSTAR JAZZY JEFF COMING TO TEN

A household name since the mid-80s thanks to his partnership with rapper-turned-actor Will Smith, DJ JAZZY JEFF and his partner-in-rhyme, the Fresh Prince, helped bring hip-hop into the suburbs of America, selling over 14 million records and winning three Grammy Awards due to the huge crossover appeal of their massive Worldwide Hits like “Summertime” and “Boom Boom, Shake The Room”. Though he is best known as one of the first hip-hop pop stars, DJ Jazzy Jeff has always been more than just a DJ. In addition to being widely credited with making the Transformer Scratch one of the most essential tools in any self-respecting DJ’s repertoire, Jeff also founded a production facility, A Touch Of Jazz in 1990, where he has produced tracks for talents like Jill Scott, Will Smith and a certain Michael Jackson.

Jazzy released his own solo CD The Magnificent in 2002 which was a fantastic collection of hip-hop, soul and house tracks. This brought him a whole new generation of fans and when he took to the decks again on a World DJ tour in 2003, he quickly reminded everyone that no one can create the ultimate party vibe quite like Jeff. His DJ philosophy is to play all types of music and he can switch effortlessly from Hip Hop to House. In fact his “Jazzy Jeff In The House” mix for Defected ended up being one of the revered House labels best sellers and his “Hip Hop Forever Pt 2” sold in similarly huge quantities. In 2005 Jazzy and Will Smith reformed especially for Live 8 in the US and had an audience of 1 million people in Philadelphia singing along to the “Fresh Prince Of Bel Air Theme”.

DJ Jazzy Jeff’s show at The Savoy in Cork last year was voted the best event that venue has ever hosted. This time around he has extended his Irish Tour to 3 dates because of that fantastic reaction. The last night of the tour is at TEN in Waterford on Saturday 11th November with support by Jay Ru in the main room and The Republic lads doing their house party thing in the Mezz. Don’t miss this one as it really will be the party of the year. Tickets are on sale now at BPM Records, Sinnotts, 0818-719300 and www.ticketmaster.ie.
