Yup, and available now. 2.16Ghz or 2.33Ghz Meroms.
I think the Superdrive got upgraded to 6x Dual-layer, too.
Um... what was the event again? I honestly don't know where this update came from!!

The 15" model has gotten an extra firewire 800 port, they have a minimum of 120Gb hard drives now and the cache has gone from 2Mb to 4Mb.

To be honest I don't know what a cache is!

Agh! Just about to buy a 13" macbook, what are the chances of holding out for a duo core 2?! And in that case, why not just hold out for Spring and get leopard too... Damned Apple and their secrecy!

This upgrade has been in the works for months. The mac-nerd community has been speculating and rumourmongering for ages. Yesterday, there were reports that the upgrade would happen relatively quietly next week. Then I check the website this morning.

I'm thrilled. I've been waiting for the upgrade for months. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait a little longer for someone to bring it back from the states, but hopefully that should be no more than 4 weeks, and they're not shipping until next week anyway.

Delivery dates in the US are around 1 November.

It's a good upgrade, and I'm pleased I didn't give in. The same model (I'm looking at the higher specced 15") now is so much better than the old one.

Bad timing, Apple, but thanks all the same. Pricks.

Ordered me a 17" MBP yesterday cause i couldn't wait any longer, looked at my order status this morning and it has been replaced by a new product.

Theyre shipping me the new one, im delighted.

Bit of a delay with shipping though. Mine isn't due to ship until Nov 7th and has an estimated delivery date of Nov 21st. Hope thats just Apple covering their ass though.

Anyway ill let you guys know if i can cook the breakfast on it with a core 2 duo in it or not when it arrives.

Really hope its been delayed for so long as they were dealing with all the heat issues and "mooing" from the first batch.

Probably be converted into a slight baahing now As so:

Unfortunately those dates are all too realistic! Be prepared to get frustrated by Apple's tracking system not changing for feckin ages and Apple being rather unhelpful. Your computer will be shipped from China so should take 2/3 weeks at least to arrive. Congrats on the upgrade though!

I fear the Macbook will now be like the mini -- Apple's "value" line, 32-bit & not upgraded for a good long while.
    Oh well.

Oh, and heat should still be the same as the old models unless they worked on the heat transfer/fan problems -- Core 2 processors are built on the same 65nm process as Core (Yonah), and have the same TDP.
And with the increased clockspeeds, Apple would be fools to not have worked on the heat problems...

    F*cking Ordered!

I've been waiting since July for this and although I was a bit disappointed there was no magnetic latch and hot swappable HD, I went ahead and ordered.

2.16GHz model was only 1818 euro and I opted for the Glossy screen.

    Shipping Monday :D

Ordered a 15" 2.33 Ghz model with 160gig drive and Glossy Screen.

Ordered it from Mactivate. The guy said Apple estimated 2/3 weeks delivery time but that it might be delivered sooner than that.

What are the chances of having it sooner. 3 weeks seems so far away.

    I'd say slim to none.
I'm sick of waiting already and its only been 9 days.

Trying to combat the boredom of waiting for it by going out and buying accessories for it. Bought a nice Sleeve for it today to keep it scratch free.

Theres some good prices for cases in The laptop shop in Stephens green shopping centre. Don't buy the Targus 17" messenger bag in there tho. They're €54.99 in there and are only €34 in Argos on the second floor for the same bag.

Let us know when you get it. I'll be green with jealousy if yours comes first ;)

was thinking of getting this one. Wanted to get a backpack style bag. On second thoughts i might go for a larger one and get a decen neoprene sleeve and be able to carry both this and my work Lappy together.

Id say have a look in the laptop shop first. Even if you go for one off the internet you will prob get it before your laptop arrives.

Something like this might do the job

    http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?cid=48&pid=TFE4

I wouldn't buy a bag off Apple they're grossly overpriced

Edit: Didn't look at the price of that first one its $249, gas, has bluetooth and all for some reason :D

Its a lot easier to find a 15" one anyway so ya should have no problem. Theres not a whole lot for the 17" line and when i did find one most were ugly

Have a nice 15" dell delux carry case in the F/s section if your interested :D;);):D
    Its a sexy beast
