thanks for that, any ideas the differences with the engines. I think the 250D is a non turbo, might be wrong.

Folks, looking at the two of these at the weekend, big difference with the price, what are the differences with the cars.

The difference under the bonnet is the E250D (W210) is an old school diesel, I think it was fitted with a turbo but not particularly fast or refined. The E250D was a 5 cylinder unit and had 113bhp. The E220 CDI is the newer common rail diesel engine. It originally came with 125bhp but later increased to 143bhp afaik. Alot smoother and quieter than the old units.

The E Class (W210) got a mild facelift in 2000 which included alot of tweaks with the suspension and other things. The easiest way to notice a facelifted model is that the wing mirrors had integrated LED side repeater indicators, the pre facelifted model didn't.

The 250D is a prehistoric indirect injection diesel, that will live forever, but will return poor enough economy and be quite slow.

The CDI is a common rail, is much more powerful and fuel efficient, but more tempremental and less forgiving for things like being fed with petrol or water.

I'd take the CDI in an instant unless you are planning on using the car as a taxi and doing 500k.

Do you know why some of them have such sqeaky suspension?
