Had a quick browse of the threads and couldn't find anything on this.
Are you all using MCE or assimilated or is anybody using any of the PVR software for Linux?
If you are, which one are you using and why?
I would like to setup one on a server for recording only, setting up the recordings through a web interface and viewing them from a PC or assimilated over a network.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

"assimilated" hehe, interesting choice of words!

A good few here (including Myself) have worked with MythTV. For what you are looking to do, its probably the best option, espcially from a web-interface\streaming viewpoint.

What is your source? NTL? Sky?

SouperComputer - source will be Astra 1b FTA for the moment, I want to see how I get on with that before moving on (SKY would be the aim).

mossym - the linux distro I use is Xandros and it removes most of the hassle linked to a linux setup (networking...).

Thanks for the answers, I'll start downloading that...:D

aye, i bet, but i know if anything goes wrong with my windows setup i can fix it, it's take me 20 times longer in linux, if at all.

Mediaportal is as powerful as mythtv for what i need, and is free as well, so no worth the hassle for me to changeover. But sounds like it is the right move for you..enjoy

I agree with mossym. I started looking at MythTV, but I didn't do my research and I gave up in sheer frustration (and I would consider myself very technical). So make sure you research hardware before you start spending any money.

I am now happily running GB PVR on Windoze.

Well, be assured that setting up MythTV on any distro can be a long process.

    My advice, install this.

The dependancies needed to install it from source can cause a lot of trouble. Knoppmyth aliviates a lot of that. Long story short, you are more likely to have a running PVR sooner with KnoppMyth.

GB-PVR is also very lightweight, but if you are willing to give MythTV a shot, go for it.

    I used the following HOWTO for MythTV on Fedora core FC5;

    http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php

I have it up and running and there is only one issue which is related to by MB (KT7-RAID which has dodgy DMA) problem.

I am very happy with MythTV, but as mentioned you have to be very carefull on hardware selection.

I am by no means a LINUX guru and following the HOWTO was very easy.

    Later,
    Gray.
