Claiming With Ebay

    Hey Folks,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with some information.

I bought something on Ebay from a seller on 25th August and still haven't received it. The seller has an excellent rating, so that's not really an issue. I paid for insurance but the guy mis-calculated and ended up sending the item without insurance.
I have emailed and emailed and all the time he's told me that he sent it and that he was going to lodge a claim with the post office.

I eventually got fed up and started a dispute with the seller. I waited the required 10 days and he never responded. I raised the dispute to a claim and followed the automated Ebay process. This told me I was eligible for a refund of £105 sterling and automatically closed the claim/dispute.

I haven't heard anything from Ebay and nothing has appeared on my paypal account. Does anyone know what's going to happen? This is new to me and I'd really like some money back as the bloody thing cost me €215.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Was this regular air mail the seller sent it the item by? I would reopen the dispute or start a new one to recover the funds as there is a time limit on claiming back from these sort of things. Did they tell you how the funds would be refunded? It normally has to be done by a certain date after the dispute is closed.

    Hi Ruu,

Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing it was regular airmail, but the seller isn't being too communicative, so I'm having a hard time finding out. I believe I still have a few weeks until I can't do anything about it. I emailed Ebay off, but trying to find an exact email address to send too is a bit of a struggle, so hopefully they will come back to me soon. I'm surprised though I haven't heard anything at this stage since the claim was closed.
I believe the funds were to be refunded through paypal, but there was no email of this, and I know I should have written it down.

You might try going back through the Dispute Console in My eBay, if you haven't tried that already. Make sure to mentioned the previous ID associated with the other claim if possible.

How difficult can this process be? I rang Paypal and they told me as I had already raised a claim with Ebay that I should contact Ebay. So I went through the Live help thing, gave the assistant my details. She went off checked it and told me the dispute had been closed. It had been closed because that's what Ebay does when you raise a dispute to a claim. She told me she couldn't help and that I should contact the fraud section on ebay.

I clicked on the link she gave me but they are closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paypal won't let you raise a dispute because you already raised one with eBay? That just sounds wrong. If I were you I'd ring my credit card provider and ask them to intervene. They may be able to reclaim the funds from Paypal, since Paypal are unwilling to help you.

I didn't actually know you could raise a dispute with eBay, I've only ever used Paypal for that, twice now and it worked fine both times. Personally, I've always found eBay to be completely useless when I have contacted them about dodgy dealers and wouldn't bother in future.

If you pay with PayPal, you should raise a dispute with PayPal first. The lastest you can file a dispute with them is 45 days after payment. If a PayPal dispute doesn't work, you can file an Item Not Received dispute with eBay no later than 60 days after the end of the listing. If you're not able to resolve things with the seller, you can escalate this to a Standard Purchase Protection claim with eBay. For more info on that, see this page:
