Heard about xdrive.com years ago, but only started using it recently, after a scare with my hard drive!

Basically you get 5GB of free online storage.
You also get a client program, so the online drive looks like a normal network drive in explorer. There's also a handy backup utility, you can mark files & directories to be backed up, either manually or on a schedule, full or incremental. You can also access your drive through any browser (handy if you need to share files or work from another machine)

If you've broadband, then it's well worth having. 5GB may not back up all your data, but excluding mp3s & movies, should go a long way.

I used to use that 'til they shut up shop on the free accounts, it was fantastic, even though there was only about 20 megs of storage 6 odd years ago!

    It is what it's.

Not exactly the same but www.foldershare.com lets you access files remotely via web browser and a small app running on your machine(s). Unfortunately it only has a 'get' side. You can't upload files to a remote machine.

    How secure is it?

What's to stop the site owner from accessing your files?

Looks like you and I have the same t-shirt oneweb :)

Just be warned that startups can come and go.

Lots of players piling into the online storage space.

They all cannot survive so don't get rid of your hard storage just yet.

Personally keep a hard drive copy and email important stuff to gmail or yahoo accounts.

They all have 1-2 gigs these day and are not going anywhere.

Even though way back in the 90's I lost 4MB of mail when I did not renew the 2MB to 6MB email upgrade.

You young uns don't know how good you have it :D

Thanks for enlightening me on that one ... however given AOL's every shifting prioities of late I would not bank on long term commitment to the service ... for sale .. not for sale ...
