I have a Sata Hard Drive and i wish to connect it to my motherboard which only had IDE connections on it, i got an adaptor (sata to IDE) which i working as i have tried it on another motherboard with IDE, if finds the hard drive no problem!

On mine the data light comes on then goes off, then nothing............. its all connected correctly so i am guessing its my Motherboard not liking it.......

The motherboard in question is a Soltek 85miv3

Will some motherboards just not take sata when using a converter........i thought as far as the Mobo was concerned it would just see another IDE hard drive............

    Any ideas guys?

    Cheers

Sounds like it could be an issue to do with the bios, only course of action I can think of would be to update the motherboard bios & hope for the best.

Edit: Scratch that there is no bios update for the SL-85MIV3 on Solteks website.

One other thing you could do is get a PCI SATA controller that stands a much better chance of working than the converter.

Thanks for that link 8T8 for the SATA controller. Meant to do this for someone ages ago. Anybody know if these will work on Dell motherboards? Will be installing one if they do.

It should work fine, it uses standard hooks into the bios unless anyone has heard differently with Dell bios.

Doesn't cost that much either so I think it's worth the "risk" anyway.
