I'm just south of Belfast with a 1973 Stag. Would consider joining you guys if your meet was not too far south.

Yeah they just sent me a letter telling me about the offer. I would have much preferred if the sent the parts I ordered a week ago and chose the 'express' option.

Anyone else noticed a lot of their stuff is sent from Switzerland these days ???

And while I'm ranting, was waiting ages for a part from Quiller and they weren't answering their phone. Logged onto the website to check I had the correct number ... small notice at bottom of page "we are on holidays this week"

    Cormac,

Try James Paddock or TD Fitchett in future - they're both cheaper for parts and postage and will generally have everything to you within a week. Fitchett's bought a lot of the original tooling for panels. Paddocks are really helpful and their courier rates are very reasonable.

Thanks, yes Fitchett's are excellent, though no website. Have gotten hard to find parts from them in the past (though this time had to settle for second hand part from Quiller)

Was a mix of Land Rover and Triumph stuff from Rimmer. Though from now on they will be a last resort. (still waiting for express parts)

If anyone else has a 1300 or 1500 FWD, then apart from the usual Dolomite suppliers, Chic Doig and particularly Mick Dolphin are useful for parts not stocked elsewhere.

I've owned 2 Triumphs over the past 4 years. I had a 1970 1300FWD, Valencia blue. I really loved that car! I'm seriously thinking of buying another in the not too distant. I also had, until recently, a 1500TC Auto. A cracking car for very little money. Sold it to a guy in the Longford area. Bought both cars on ebay from the UK.

If anyone has seen the 1300, reg no. 70 D 860, let me know. Haven't seen it since I sold it.

There is a Triumph club by the way. They meet once a month in O'Sheas in Clonskeagh and regularly go on runs. Good bunch of people.

Now that I've read back properly over the thread, the guy I sold the 1300 to had a Spitfire too. Was that you Cormac?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭cormac_byrne

Yes, that's me, 70 D 860 is outside the door, front suspension and the lower wishbone arm parted company. nearly got it fixed, but the darknesss means will have to wait for the weekend to get it back on the road.

Sorry to hear that man. All part of driving classics I suppose. Have you been using it regularly? Like yourself I used Mick Dolphin whenever I needed anything. A very friendly guy with a real soft spot for the 1300. I bought 2 new hub caps from him for the car. I hope it's been reliable up until your recent troubles.

Up till last week when I got a 1963 Landrover Series IIa 109" (with 1 ton military chassis) the 1300 was my daily transport. Now maybe it will get a rest long enough to replace the leaky radiators (instead of pouring in more radweld!)

Had it's share of problems, but as you say that's classic motoring.

Biggest hassle is FWD parts not easily available (even from Mick Dolphin)
    e.g. exhaust back section

FastFit did a McGyver job with a scrap piece of pipe, now it sounds like I'm trying to be a boy racer :D
(hopefully will eventually find an original)

Looking forward to getting it back on the road, Tracy has driving test coming up. The Land Rover not suitable for her to practice.

The Triumph Dolomite Club in the UK are good for parts. Even produce their own repair sections. I think they've provided exhaust sections for the fwd before. You have to be a member to buy parts from them, although individual members will buy and sell to anyone. There seems to be a lot of interest in the 1300 within the club at the mo. Worth talking to Mark Ashbridge (1300 owner and registrar) or Steve Waldenberg, who stocks a lot of fwd parts.

    Check out http://www.triumphdolomite.co.uk/dolomite.html

    The forum is great too.
