What should I pay house cleaner?

Just looking for some advice. I'm putting my house up for rent, and I'm getting two of the cleaning ladies from work to give it the once over, i.e. clean two bathrooms, and generally wipe the place up and down wherever it needs it. It's a 3-bed semi.

For a half-day each, I was thinking ~40 Euro each, say 4 to 5 hours maybe during school if they have kids.

    Does this sound reasonable?

    Thanks.

    /M.

€ 12.50 an hour is the norm for a once off. A tenner an hous for regular arrangement.

That sounds reasonable. I pay mine €40 for 3 hours and they are super !

Mountainy Man, thanks for the info. Good to have a rule of thumb for services like these. Just as a matter of interest, where did you source that info from, and do you have a list for other services?

My mum pays the cleaner a flat fee of €30. The old cleaner took 3 hours, got the €30, but didn't do such a great job. Just took her time. The current one takes between 2 and 3 hours, does it properly, for €30.

Its a case of €30 for a job well done, or €30 for her being there 3 hours. Your choice.

Where do you find these cleaners, I guess you'd need someone recomended to you rather than just get someone from an ad?

They cleaned for my mum's friends, so she hired them. Always ask for local refrences (someone you can pop over to, not some number that may well be their friend), as you don't want to employ a thief, and also you're hiring them to clean, not so that you can show them how to clean. Also, if you think I'm paranoid about them being a thief: remember they will be cleaning your house, so will get a good feel where everything is, and what is in your house, so its justified paranoia.
