Apologies if this area has been covered before but..

I just watched episodes 1 - 3 of the 1st season of BSG last night and one thing i copped onto by the third episode was that they're showing snippets / good bits of the forthcoming episode in the starting credits.

Kinda annoyed me a bit.. like in episode 3
where they go to propose to the prisoners they carve up the ice to help them get water.. it showed Apollo getting punched and thrown to the ground by these prisoners in the opening credits

It did defeat an element of suprise from the episode (yeah,
it's no suprise the prisoners revolted but even so..!
). Is it something that continues throughout the three seasons? Does it bother you?

But on a side note, i'm enjoying it immensely so far. The series (even though only three episodes in) is a huge improvement on a decent (though not amazing in my books) miniseries.

Its something that continues through Seasons 1 & 2 anyway, can't comment on Season 3. There are a few episodes at the start of Season 2 where it doesn't occur, but they revert back again.

Can't say it ever really bothered me, tbh.

Here's a quote to clear this up from Ronald Moore's blog:
"What made you decide to show glimpses of the current episode at the end of the opening credits? Oh, and could you please stop doing that? (:"

This is a trick that "Space: 1999" used to do and I proudly stole it from them. And, no, I won't. Nice try, though.

You get used to it after a while, in fact I quite missed it when they took it away for a few episodes at the beginning of season two. If it still bothers you and now that you know it's there...look away! :)

The segment lasts about 8 seconds, so just do a really long blink until the drums stop! :)

Now that you've finally started, are you enjoying it? :)

It continues into Season 3 alright.

Hate it myself, always look away or skip past it.

Me too. I watched the mini-series, all of season 1 and half of season 2 in the space of a week. Absolutely compulsive stuff. I'd love to get amnesia and watch this again for the first time.

It's one of my few complaints. It's a really awful idea. Skip it like I do ;)

They did this in the original 'Battlestar Galactica' so I assume it's a homage to that.

They retracted it for a while but, get this, US fans complained and wanted it back in so we were stuck with it again *sigh* I really can't understand the desire to spoil yourself, I really can't. So odd...

I think in the U.S. they'd have an adbreak after the opening credits, I always figured these opening snippits were there to intice the viewer not to switch over.

IMHO it can be good sometimes. And can be used in a craftily misleading way. ;)
It's not really any worse than showing trailers for a show during the week or the little on-next-week's-show bit at the end.

I hated it at first and did the eye closing thing... but I actually like it these days... I definitely missed it when it was gone.

Oooohhh and something else has been annoying me..

Anyone else think Gaius and Desmond from Lost have been seperated at birth?

    Can't be just me!

Nahh, more like Baltar & Julian Bashir....

I never noticed it until I saw it mentioned here, and now when I looked for example at last weeks episode, it kinda annoys me that I could see things ahead.

yeah that's it it like lost and mythbuster, they shows are slaves the to the ridculous amount of ads breaks and stupid tricks to make you watch the whole show.

Its kinda sad reley when u think about it because some people in the us download because of ads and then the tv station think hmmm well people are downloading i know we need more money lets put on more ads that will make up the difference and as we can see from BSG season 3 episode 4 Exodus Part II the ratings droped 22.1% from the 1st episode in season 3
so 1/5 of people didnt watch it on tv i think that almost all of them downloaded it i mean i checked 2 sites one of them had over 11,000 downloaders and over 2000 seeders and thats not including the ppl who downloaded it and didnt seed and thats just 1 file from 1 site

So them having more ads drives more poeple to download which is more drop in ratings which is likley to result in cancellation

The one thing i dont understand is why are these people in the US to selfish because i used to get my "cousins" to send me SG1 and ENT and BSG and others but when my faverate shows where on sky 1 months later i used to turn my tv on and then go out or play computer or go boozin whatever but once my tv was on and my view was being counted i didnt care then i found out that sky dont record all ratings so there was no real reason for me to do it

if those ppl in the US who download would just leave there TVs running so atleast people in sci-fi dont think the show is getting less popular i mean i blame sg1s cancellation and BSGs 1/4 drop in ratings on us downloaders who arnt botherd to just leave there TVs on

im sorry btw im sure there is countless mistakes in this so sry but im in one of those drunk bad mood things and i am not botherd making sure its all spelt correctt.

Someone in the other thread pointed out that BSG is #2 on the iTunes video download thingum. So not everyone that's downloading it isn't paying. Only most of them.

    It's a vicious circle alright.

The U.S. don't record what everyone is watching either. They put together a sample audience, who have to each agree and have meters put in place (so its not like you wouldn't know), and then they make estimations based on that. I assume it works the same here (don't know).
