Can anyone tell me the breakdown for degree clasifications?
eg I know a 1.1 is First Class Honours, but what about the rest?
It's probably been posted a load of times before so I aplogise but the search function isn't working for me.

I'm not sure how it is for all degrees but for my degree it was:
    1.1 First Class Honours (>70%)
    2.1 Second Class Honours Grade 2 (65-69%)
    2.2 Second Class Honours Grade 1 (60-64%)
    Pass (50-59%)
    Fail (<49%)

The percentages for each grade can change in different courses/universities. Many degrees have a pass mark of 40%.

Also now that UCD is modularised I think things are different and they're using a GPA system something like America. No idea how that really works. Though I think UCD aren't even quite sure how it works either.

Sorry can't edit my original post but yeah it should read:

    2.1 Second class honours grade 1 (65-69%)
    2.2 Second class honours grade 2 (60-64%)

    Sorry!

Could anybody who know about a course pass mark of 40% say if this is the same in their degree too?

    Thanks.

No it's not. I am in my last year of my Law degree in Griffith College Dublin and the pass mark is 40%. I think a 2.2 is 50%-59% but I am sure that a 2.1 is 60%-69% and 1.1 is 70%. 70% is pretty much the roof, you don't really get 75%'s or 80%'s.

    In Trinity it's:

    First 70-100%
    II.1 60-69%
    II.2 50-59%
    III 40-49%
    F1 30-39%
    F2 0-29%

Interesting to see the variations - I thought it was the same wherever this system is used.

It even varies by faculty within colleges. e.g. some in UCC have a 3H at 50%, where some don't.
It's a very very good idea to check with your own faculty just in case.
