Any thoughts? I can get a iqon 19" widscreen for about 230 from work but not sure whether widescreen is the better option for gaming. Read on some website that its difficult to set up but seems to give more vision in game. playing BF2142 atm.

Depends on your gpu. Is your gpu good enough for 1680x1050?

afaik bf2142 does support widescreen 16:9/16:10.

the iqon monitors would worry me a bit. As their not a known name. And surely the specs wont be to great. The main thing you chould look for is the response time of the monitor, measured in ms. Anything below 12/8ms will be fine for gaming. Anything higher and you get ghosting and tearing. As the screen cant keep up with the fast images.

www.dell.ie do some nice monitors, and offer finance too. I would reccomend a 24" widescreen. But for this you ill be talking about having to own a serious pc, With top of the range graphics card and cpu. As the resolution is 1900*1200 ( i think )

    Best of luck.

Just ordered a pc from komplett with the works in it. Geforce 7950 GX2 card, the 1GB one, core 2 processor etc 1850 give or take a few euro's.

lol can't afford to go more than 300. Scraping the 1850 as is, and still must buy new mouse/keyboard but should get cheap enough from work, say 60ish, so 1910 for pc/mouse/keyboard leaves about 290 for monitor, cant afford anymore than that.

Would prefer new, I can get LCD TV's from work also cheap, working in Harvey Norman so I can get staff discount on whatever we sell. Might go with with a widescreen from komplett for cheap seen some on other forum. Not sure how LCD's TV's work with pc games.

Would my new pc run games well on a 24" LCD TV if I had the right connections. I'm sorry if I sound silly but i'm not much of a techy when it comes to pc's etc. Just a no brain gamer...

Geforce 7950 GX2 is overkill for BF2142, if you want something really high end get a X1950XTX instead delivers near enough the same performance anyway (game seems to run better on ATI hardware as well).

As for TV as the display yeah it will work, most HDTV's come with a VGA or DVI input these days though plan ahead if you are going to be using this as your general purpose monitor as staring at the screen from the couch trying to read text can be annoying : )

Oh yeah most LCD HDTV's have a resolution of 1366x768 which isn't all that demanding but with a high end GPU you can max out the details and up the level of AA/AF used.

Waiting for the new total war next month also but figured get a better one now and not have to worry upgrading for a while. No doubt something else will come along that will catch my eye and that I'll just have to play. Finished WoW 2 months ago and trying to stay away from mmorpg's. They take up way to much time. Gaming is for enjoyment not to be confused with work which requires starting times etc.

No simply for gaming I don't watch that much TV and any kind or size would do for that when I do. Would be nice gaming on a decent size screen if the piture stays nice and crisp.

Most of the Tc Lvds have a lower resolution :/The HDTV/HDMI have alot higher.

But id reccomend dropping your card to a 7900gt and putting the rest to s decent monitor.

Unfortunately the order has been processed and I have been dreaming GX2 dreams for the past month. I'm pretty sure I can get a HD 24" LCD for a good price at work so maybe I should just dig out an extra few hundred and go for that. We have a good few that size and larger. I was able to get 28"or 26" LCD with 5 year warranty for 730ish so might drop into work tomorrow and have a look.

Cant you cancel the item if it hasn't shipped yet ?

The display you get will have a a top resolution of 1366x768 anyway very few lower end HDTV's support anything higher.

A GX2 at that resolution is a bit of waste an XT(X) or GT(X) will generally perform the same not to mention the fact that the GeForce 8 series is only 3 weeks away if you are after really serious pixel processing power.

    Serious overkill IMO

Nah im good, I should have put the order in weeks ago but kept delaying, now i just can't wait any longer, current pc is crashing on me regular and i just want a good machine. Since im only using a 17"CRT atm anything will be an upgrade even a basic 19" normal display. No mention of 8 series u will give me nightmares and thats just not fair

Perhaps I shall win the lotto, have we a forum for that lol.

Get a PC monitor, not a TV, Monitors have better response times and support standard resolutions unlike the weird resolutions that LCD TVs support :P

I got a Viewsonic VX2025WM recently and its a great monitor, 1680*1050 widescreen, I have tried it with Source games, UT2004, COD2, BF2....

They all natively support Widescreen, except Battlefield, which needs some fiddeling, I tried the other day but gave up after a while because I couldnt get it to work and I dont play BF2 alot...

Also you will lose Vertical resolution in BF2 if you get it to work in widescreen, Most games have a gain in horizontol resolution..

P.s If you are prepared to spend €600+ on an LCD TV, why not spend €400 on a decent 20" widescrren monitor?

19" is biggest at work, the LCD 26" would normally cost 799 but staff costs would be 680 so thought it might be better. Scaleo 19" widescreen even at staff was costing 320 or thereabouts but couldnt get any details on resoultion and response time.

Also with LCD TV I can hook up DVD player/ps2 etc instead of having TV + monitor in the room. Where did u get your monitor?
