    Hi all..

I have been having some major problems with my PC tonight. Since about 7 o'clock I havent been able to log onto my profile. When it gets to the start up screen with the two user profiles I click on my profile and it stalls. Then a little box comes up informing me that I cant log on to this profile as there is problems with access or its a corrupt profile.. So I log on to a temporary profile and and it is as if I am starting wondows for the first time each time I reboot..

I recently got an 80 gig iPod so I am wondering if thats the reason.. I am doing a virus check at the moment so no joy so far.. I uninstalled firefox as it seemed to be causing problems as I recently installed a new theme type thing for it.

Any help would be great cause I cant handle this temporary profile as my iTunes are gone and stuff..

    Cheers in advance.

Cheers for the help.. I'm doing as it says on the Microsoft website and I start to copy the profiles but it gets stuck on the mstore10.mgc file..

I searched this and it says it is a clip organiser file? I realise that my profile is crashed but I just cant see why the computer should be performing so poorly and I think its far too much of a coincidence that this has coincided with updating to iTunes 7 and getting an iPod..

teh apple software rules your pc now. It is assimilating it into a imac. Much like the borg.

    Be afraid, be very afraid.

But on a serious note, i would do a system restore.

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. Just a pick a date before you noticed any problems. and follw the instuctions. And all should hopefully be well.

The computer is getting gradually worse at this stage which is telling me its got a virus.. I've tried to copy my files onto another partition and that has frozen time after time.

    System restore didn't work as

I've tried to run AVG several times and that freezes at about 17000 files being scanned. I have also tried to do a virus scan online to no avail.

Every time I try and restart the computer it goes to a scan disk page and wont complete this as it says an error has occured.. System restore didn't work as a result of this

I'm starting to panic now as a lot of my files, photos and music library isn't backed up and is on the same partition as windows..

Any ideas and I would be truly trule greatful

To stop chkdsk running at restart:

Disabling Chkdsk - Windows 2000 and XP
    1. Run the Registry Editor (regedt32.exe)
    2. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
    \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
    3. Change the BootExecute entry to:
    autocheck autochk *
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

I would back up the registry first so you can restore it later if needs be. This should allow a systen restore.

Oh! You don't have Aswboot.exe etc after the * ?

Nope... This has just started happening.. Even when I shut the computer down properly. Majorly worried at the moment as the computers performance is getting worse.

Whats really worrying is that it wont run AVG scan properly.

Anyone have any ideas to what I can do to resolve this problem? And if I format my PC is there any chance that I can retrieve my files?
