Hey All, Heading to Amsterdam for a few days in January with the bf and looking for maybe a three-star for three nights and then pushing the boat out a bit for one night to a nice four or five star. Problem is the budget. I've been looking around and reckon I can do that for under 400 but just want a few recommendations because we've never been and don't know what we're going over to! Any help would be greatly appreciated, the plans above are very flexible. Thanks!

Have a google for the Artemis hotel in Amsterdam - relatively inexpensive 4 star hotel.

Try http://www.hostelworld.com they do budget accomodation which includes apartments and houseboats. You can stay in strange guesthouses like the one run by an ex madam and geared totaly towards couples, I can only imagine what goes on at them hostels.

If you really want to live the Amsterdam lifestyle get yourself a houseboat. Try http://www.houseboatamsterdam.nl for more upmarket houseboats.

Thanks for all your help. Have booked Eden Rembrandt Hotel in the city (hopefully!) so will let ye know if it was nice. Got a good deal for four nights on booking.com so happy with that. Heading for tripadvisor.com now, thanks again!
