Bear with me, I`m bit of a techno-eejit.

I like listening to music but am not too keen on headphones. Ideally I`d like to get an mp3 player or something like that where I can listen to music, download songs from the computer and if possible watch stuff on it. The important thing is that it has speakers that I have on the desk as I`m really not bad on headphones (perhaps I haven`t tried the right ones?). Also would like to plug it into the wall or rechargeable batteries.

I`m in no hurry to get in, ideally I`ll wait until after the Christmas rush. Budget I have yet to decide on. I`m willing to buy online, although I would prefer to see it first in the flesh so to speak.

    Any ideas?.

    Thank you!.

the samsung yp-k5 only has a 4GB memory, but has a built-in speaker and displays photos, I think it has playsforsure compatibility to.

How many songs would 4GB hold?. Would one that plays videos and the like be a lot more.

    The Cowon A2 perhaps?
    http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/cowon/a2/

It plays video, has a radio, will display images and of course plays music. It has decent built-in stereo speakers too.

A unit that will playback video's will be more expensive due to the screen.

How many songs do you want to have on the unit? Would you like something small that could fit in your shirt pocket, or something a bit bigger?

4GB would hold 5000 4min tracks at mp3 128kbps (which is fine for me, but not for everybody)

For headphones, you should give 'in-ear' headphones a go, I find them to be very comfortable. A good sony pair should do the trick.

What is the price of the Cowon A2 over here bound to be? (prepared to go eep!).

I wonder how quickly I can fill up 5000 songs....

Ah, no it won't. It'll hold roughly 1,000 of them.

How many albums do you have and can you imagine yourself having in the next 3 years? One album (1 CD) has on average, 17 tracks and you'll fit, on average, 18 albums or about 280 songs on 1GB.

For high quality earphones in a price range of most people who can afford to buy an mp3 player, get these.

For speakers, watch out, there are a lot of "compact" or mp3 player speaker docks that have the Left and right speaker no more than 3 inches apart and this just isn't right for our ears unless your sitting with your nose in the centre of that 3 inches. Best to get speakers you can put at either side of your room.

What mp3 player will depend on the size of your current and future music collection.

peats sell the 20GB for €330 and the 30gb for €370 but that excludes 21%vat

and ya it would be 1000 songs, sorry:o

A Creative Zen. The Micro is a classic, but the only ones that you can watch videos on are the Creative Zen Vision and the Zen Vision: M. I have the Vision M and you can't fault it. 30gb (15,000 songs), compact, classy, microphone, radio, photos and video-enabled. It supports a load of video formats too, unlike the i-pod video. And it's colour quality is..awesome:D

The USB charging is desperately slow, but Dixons sell a charger, variable voltage that's only €15. The player itself was €319 in o2 and places, but you can get it for about €200 or less on the internet, but I wanted full guarantees and stuff...

ya creative zen visiom:M would be a good choice, just look at other threads. but the tiny zen v plus also plays video on a 1.5" screen though
