Football club banning orders Leeds United 115 Portsmouth 110 Cardiff City 109 Stoke City 108 Manchester United 106

The club with the highest number of arrests was Tottenham Hotspur, with 169, Manchester United had 147, Chelsea, 126, Sheffield Wednesday, 89, Coventry City, 88 and Leeds United, 76.
Is it safe to go to a PL match? Are you only safe when in your seat? Wont someone please think of the children?

Didnt think it would be that high and they would actually publish this as most clubs would state it happened outside the ground so a "police matter".

bit of a non story really, 100s of 1000s go to football every week and a minute number of them are thugs, shock.

I think there's a danger these figures will be taken out of context TBH.

Can't argue with the banning orders, but arrests? A number of games this season at Tottenham have seen police sniffer dogs used to target recreational drug users...would that be included in the stats for Spurs? Same with simple cases of drunk and disorderly.

I sit close to the away fans at WHL, and there's nearly always one or two removed from the ground by police for something. Are they bumping up our figures?

Are certain police forces more likely to be heavy handed in dealing with "trouble" at certain grounds? I know there is a heavy police turnout at WHL for the likes of West Ham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Pompey and ManYoo.

Also, ManYoo feature 2nd in the list of arrests, but have the highest attendance figures in the PL, so their % arrested is much lower than one might imagine.

Not defending any club/team, but there's more to this.

And yes mate, you are safe at a PL game...;)

For someone who goes to both home & away games there is little trouble to be found. Even when we play some team down the A140 which we don't take a liking to. The stewards that we always had trouble with are at Derby when they refused to leave in 2 of the lads for having a drink before the game. They managed to get a complete apology from the chairman and offered complimentary tickets for the return fixture because he admitted to his stewards being heavy handed.

I only know of one person who got banned and funnily enough that was at Derby too last season when he refused to sit down when told by a steward.

ps Kdjac you'll be fine going to games and kids are fine too. Never any trouble because of good policing and stewarding both inside and outside the ground.

I thought the dogs were for explosives more than drugs, they have them at stamford bridge too but I've never seen them actually go for someone.

Yeah, its well known that lots of away fans go to Spurs games with the specific intention of getting arrested to bump up the Spurs figures. :D

Not what I meant and you know it. Home and away fans at the Lane share the Park Lane stand, banter gets heated, stewarding tends to be more heavy handed towards the away fans, Plod gets involved. Point being, stewarding/policing at certain grounds tends to be harsher, the arrest figures may reflect that.

Us, Man City, ManYoo, Boro...all grounds where security is tighter. I've been to Wigan, you'd hardly know there were police present.
