Have a stab at it?

€500 live sat for the betfair Asia, 24 runners(2 packages) level two blinds 100/200 7400 out of 10k starting left. Play has been unorthodox to say the least.

I limp with kj in early position, then realise that I've put two 1k chips into the pot by mistake instead of two 100s. Now there has been a couple of occasions where the preflop action has been well over-bet so its not as obvious what I've done as it normally would be. Anyhow button is the only caller, rag rainbow is checked turn brings another dud. Have a stab ? and if so how much

horrible scenario. you need to put your opponent on a hand, and decide how the fcuk you gonna get him off it. I looks like he has something like AQ.. If the opponent in question was tight enough I'd probably bet 2200 on the turn and fold to a raise... If your opponent was a loose fish I'd either check it down (and lose the pot) or push on the river.

the fact that he called your 2k means surely he has a hand...

I'd push on the river - in the hope he hasn't hit his set or hasn't an overpair.
Just take a big sigh, make tutting noises put em all in and stare at the ceiling!! If he aint gotta hand he can't call (gulp)

TBH you can't really afford to get away from it - can you??

    good luck!!

First of all, the intention to limp with KJ in EP: Maybe I'm too tight, but that looks very marginal.

Pretty much what ocallagh said re the 'stab'. You're hoping he has a bigish Ace, or a pair he can put down. What do you think of opponent, and what does he think of you? Would he expect you to bet the rag flop with an over-pair, or c-bet with a missed Ace? Would he slow play an over-pair to that flop, thinking you're aggressive enough to take a stab at it on the turn (which is now your plan)? Against an unknown, I probably just give it up, but otherwise it's player/history dependant.

Right its a CPT event and well I don't want to be disrespectful to anyone but the play up to now has been appalling. There's probably two decent players at the table from what i can make out, the player on the button won his ticket to this in a pub game and my read is that new enough to the game and this is by far the biggest entry game he has played but not frightened to get his chips in. As for what he would expect of me I really don't know but its my experience of CPT games that a lot of the players just consider there own two cards.

golden rule, never bluff a bad player. check it down, you may even be ahead QJ or the like... i think if you wait for a better spot to get them in youll be in much better shape. i check it down. if i hit a jack or king on river maybe a 2k value bet.

Don't limp KJ in EP. How much does the other guy have left? You could just shove the flop. Otherwise c/fold is prolly best.

If that's the case, then I just give it up. Don't bother getting tricky against these guys. Outdraws/structure aside, you shouldn't have any trouble doing well anyway.

yeh lenny and goodluck I think the right play was to just give it up however i couldn't help myself and fired 4.3k at it, got called, Q on river which was checked, his AK took it down. Managed to get my 2.1k back up to over 11k before going out in 14th on a misguided re-steel. Feel i Missed a great opportunity here, Abc poker would of got me there:(. as for limping with KJ , well its not good but my style is to limp with a lot worse the first few levels of a tournament

I don't mind the limp with KJ at all. I think limping and playing alot of cheap flops early on is the way to go. I definitely don't like raising with it in a game like this, you want to keep the pots small against muppets.

unfortunate spot to find yourself in Nicky. You know the muppet wont fold his hand but you still want to have a go at it.

Was the standard that bad though in general. Would have fancied you to come through that field.

being a CPT event you could probable presume he had A2.

Worst thing about it is nothing for 14th place? correct?? even though only about 60% of the prize pool is being paid out......

Maybe i'm being unfair but thats my experience of CPT.

    Mac

there was a couple of decent players there, Connie but a few really bad ones to, in a ideal world i should get through a field like this but as you know Connie over one game there are never any guarantees.

Max this was a 24 player sat for asia not a regular cpt event, €500+€30 entry think there was a small overlay

Was this on in carlow? I know a guy tha made it pretty far in this, and he's a pretty poor player, so the field must have been fairly soft.

dont think its possible to find a softer field for a €500 buy in event
