Hey im planning on getting an epiphone LP soon and changing the pickups to seymore duncan or gibson. I was just wondering which LP should get? I could get a custom but then i wont have enough for the pickups.Iv also heard the plain top is better because its pure mahogany but then why is it cheaper? Iv got arounf E700 to spend alltogether
    Thanks

Oh, you poor deluded fool. How about getting a nice Edwards (ESP) guitar with SD's already installed? Et Voila:

For €700, you can get a much much nicer guitar than an Epiphone.

If it was, then why do all the real Les Pauls have maple tops? ;) It sure ain't cheaper. The maple top is part of the Les Paul tone.

Are edwards only available in Japan or can you get them in ireland?

Just from Japan, if they sold in IReland you'd expect to pay well over a grand for one

If you must, you can probably pick up a second-hand Gibson Les Paul Studio on ebay within your budget. Maybe stretch a little to cover shipping.

If you buy in Irelad you'll be paying 166% of what you'll pay by buying abroad so you should really think about it.

Like I said, I'm torn between a Strat from Ishi or one of those Edwards for Christmas. There's a couple of Japanese guitar sites but I can't think of the good one at the moment. Spent about 3 hours going through it last weekend.

why the hell did u put yourself in the predicament :p

at least they are totally different guitars so its not too bad.

u can choose one or the other type of sound

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

Don't like the big headstock :o I was planning on getting that strat in black. There's something about a black strat with a maple board that I love.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

it looks like u wouldn't have to try to be as good as dave gilmour...its a curse :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    :p

Anyway, this is way off topic.

Donal_deadly, bottom line is if you have €700 to spend, you would be an absolute fool to spend it on an Epiphone. There are much much better guitars than Epi's around for that price and you will just end up regretting buying one in a few years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

he's 100% right...epiphone are only appealing because they seem a safe bet because they have gibson on the headstock and gibson les pauls are a classic guitar...that gibson les pauls tho not epiphones

No idea. TBH, I'm just going "ooh, shiny!" at the moment. I'll do research when I'm actually buying.
