Puncture sealant / preventative

The rear wheel of my Dragstar 250 was punctured by a nail while I was on Foster's Avenue. The wheel lost air and it shaped rather quickly and the bike tipped back and then toppled with me on it. No injuries and no damage beyond some scrathes and a bent rear brake pedal, but anything that can avert it is appreciated. The nail appears to have entered on the corner coming from the Stillorgan dual carriageway. Roads are littered with random crap and this seems like a possible peace of mind item.

That stuff you got there looks like stuff I used in the past... but its only rated for somthin like 70mph. You would want to check it out before you use it. I used it in trailers so its fine for that. Its fine for quads and trailies used off road.
For motorbikes you want "ultraseal" which is good for 156mph, and is recommended by BMW.

I have ultra seal in my tires too. Luckly not needed it yet :)
That said, it is important to find out the seeds that it is ok for. Ultra seal is rated for 156mph. But I've only heard of once case where it caused problems. That was only under rapid acceleration. The bike would get a "wabble" in its tires. However under an normal acceleration, the bike was ok. I've head of people who stated getting at least 200mph out of it with out problems. Alot of people put it down to an improper applacation of the substance.
If you want to get Untral Seal installed. Go to Iggy in BTM, he will install it in both tires for something like €35.

I also dont trust the way the site states that it works on tubed tires too. Most "auto sealents" dont work on them, Due to the movement of the tube inside the tire I beleave. Could be wrong though. So look around and see if its ok for your bike.

To be honest, I tried a product called "No More Flats". Pure rubbish.
It corrodes the alloy in the wheel. It may be OK if you have steel wheels. Six months after installing, I noticed a drop in the rear tyre pressure. When I soaped up the wheel, I had a major leak all around the rim. When I got the tyre off, the inside of the wheel was a mess. Took me two hours to clean the crap from the inside of the wheel, and the edges of the tyre, so the bead would seal again. Three months later, the front one went the same. So, for me, never again.
A friend of mine who has an '89 Gixer since new tried Ultraseal, with much the same effects.
Each to thier own. We don't use it any more. We just inspect our tyres a little more often.
