    I love this thing!
Ok, this one (first I've seen really) is expensive as hell and it's got components that could be way better, but I love the idea of it! :)

Instead of buying a flatscreen and building a HTPC with a seperate PC type case, the manuffacturers could stick a good screen on an empty shell so that users can add components themselves, or fill it in with varying levels of (low to high end) for non hardware builders!

Imagine it, you buy a big ass TV 32"/42", whatever you can afford, and you order some components, a Core 2 Duo, a 7950 GTX, a few Raptors and a DVD/Blu-ray Writer, and you can put them into the TV and install MCE or Vista on it!
Then add TV tuners, wireless keyboard, mouse, USB VoIP phone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, your broadband, kitchen sink, toilet, mini fridge... anything you need = WIN! :p

Obviously you'd need it to be quiet and have easy access to the components (like a mobo tray), but they're littel details.
    Thoughts?

It's an interesting alternative to the desktop now that a lot of household have a laptop or two which could absorb the word processing/web browsing needs. Obviously posting on boards from the TV would be strange, but games consoles are traditionally on TVs and it's where you watch videos, so it would be good for multimedia tasks. Not that it's all that different from plugging a regular cased computer into an HDTV like my parents did in their house but I like the look. Would need to be quiet obviously. Watercooled TV?

Cool looking device & concept but the lack of expansion kills it.

Would it have been so hard for Fujitsu or others to engineer a single slot x16 PCI-e into the back of the unit even if the integrated PSU means you cant put the latest & greatest into it something moderately better than the Intel GM900 would be welcome.

(Actually an external PSU really is the way to go if someone were to build such a unit allowing good graphics cards.)

I would hope Apple would try something like this as they will inevitably produce a good design that everyone else will clone in some manner though Apple aren't great when it comes to graphics options but they do use mobile laptop parts in those iMac someone should do the same but for a PC/HDTV with an NVIDIA MXM upgradeable graphics chip.

stuff like this has been about for years, admittedly with a smaller screen.

    Iridim AVPC

Personally I've yet to see a good implementation of this. They usually have bad thermal design, pathetic graphics or dodgy sound. This has all three!

I can only see them as being a niche product for now, in most situations people have a DVD player that gets pulled out to make way for their HTPC.

In what way is that fujitsu unit any better than what you put together yourself ?

Some of the HTPC cases from antec wipe the floor with that pedestrian design and with the money they are looking for you could match that system easily.

If you must have the PC itself connected to the case of the TV that that is also no problem but why you would want this is again a good question , dont most people want to wallmount?, you'd have trouble wallmounting that thing !

Quiet systems are also no problem these days , there are lots of choices , large format fans , heat pipes , water cooling etc.

If youve got that kind of money to spend , then spend some of it on a build your own PC book and custom design your own system. You'll be happier in the long run.

Hey A&E you should really post this question elsewhere and as a new thread.
Anyway, I would definitely advise LCD over plasma. Samsung seems to get good reviews with everyone.
Try www.pixmania.com if you want to get one delivered to your door for a reasonable price.
Try to make sure that whatever you buy has a resolution of 1366x768 or above and a contrast ratio of 5000:1 or better.
