I just got a taxi with a fare that is usually between 12-13euro (i get it most thursday and fridays) but i just got charged 22euro tonight. I know the standard is 4.10 when you get in and then 2euro for the call out, but the fecker charged me well over the odds. Im sure there was 6.90 on the meter over the 4.10 when i got in, but i didnt question it hoping that with the new system it would just work out prety much the same price, cos ive been away and this is the first time ive been in taxis with a new fare. I got a receipt and il be compliaing tomorrow.

But what happens do they really investigate it? and how do they prove it? I know its only about 10er differnece but its the principle..

Speak with your wallet and take a bus.

Same here last night. Fare usually around €21 was around €25 last night. It seems the new tarrifs are anything but good for the consumer.

Gary, if you booked a cab by radio and maybe for some reason delayed after the driver let you know he was there before getting in, then the fare would have been run up from when you were notified, especially if you were waiting a good few minutes. This sounds harsh, but it is legit as you are paying for the time wasted, so to speak.

If you want to query the fare charged, get back onto the cab company you booked with and ask for the drivers plate number and take it from there (I assume you didn't get a recepit, which is now obligitary by law to be given to a passenger so on that alone, you may have the driver by the shorts.)

If one walks into a taxi office and requests a taxi, is this considered to be a "booking"?

A work colleague did this yesterday and when he got into the taxi it had €3.80 + €2.00 extra displayed.

How would the driver know with traffic, delays etc.? (Different with a hackney).

I thought the new tarrifs were meant to reduce prices

They are meant to 'regularise' fares nationwide. In some areas this will mean an increase.

Yes, it is. The €2 charge is applicable on any job that is not hailed off the street.

if thats the prices that have to be paid now its the last time il be getting a taxi.

It turned out there was 5.90 on the meter when i got into the taxi. I got onto the taxi company today and told them and they talked to the driver. The taxi driver said there was 5.90 on the meter cos he couldnt find my house! I live in a normal house in the middle of a block thats not difficult to find at all! So im getting onto the carriage office on monday. I am in the right here amnt I ?

    Shouldn't it have been €6.10? (€4.10+€2.00)

No that was on it, plus 5.90 on the "mileage" part of the meter

The initial charge AKA €3.80/€4.10 starts only when the driver makes himself known to you that he is there to transit you and not until he is there unless he arrives early and is waiting for you before the appointed time. If the driver knocked on your door to say he was there, then yeah he can run the meter (once he is ontime, or if you tell him to start the meter) but not while he is in transit to a pick up, this is illegal. While some addresses can be hard to find, it is up to the driver to know where he is to pick up at.

A case of any complaint is now taken by the Taxi Regulators office, contact them regards same and see how you fare from there. I doubt if you would get your €3 odd back, but if the driver gets a ticking off for this, it will do some other passengers some good.

Oh and do let us know what comes from this.
