Can a file written in Notepad on a PC be read on a Mac?

I send out digital images with a Readme file written in Notepad on my PC.

I've been doing this for three years and never had any feedback.

Just got off the phone to a designer who said that the Notepad file caused her Mac to crash.

I presume the problem is at her end and not mine?

    Thanks.

    D.

.txt files are universal. Even nokia's can read them.

It's a plain ASCII text file - no formatting or any other crap - just plain old text. I'd say it's whatever she's using to read it is the problem.

it should open fine with NeoOffice, Mac Office and of course textedit!

As others say, if its plain ASCII text and the file want corrupted during it journey through email, opening it should not be an issue.

if you used microsoft outlook and used rich text format for the emails, and the MAC user doesn't have an email program that can read that propietry format they end up with a winmail.dat attachment on the MAC

This is a problem caused by the RTF format, sending plain text emails will avoid it. HTML might work too

    Thanks for the replies.

Just for the record, I used bog standard Notepad and I send everything out on CDs and DVDs.

I think the problem was with her machine.
