Specs: AMD sempron 3100, ABit uGuru KV8 pro motherboard, XP service pack 2, 1GB DDR.

i left my comp on for a night when i went home to donegal (downloadin fedora 5) came back and PC was shut down. turned back on boots for 10-20 seconds and reboots. no warning sounds or flashes. hard drive was giving slight bother 3 weeks ago but got that sorted (or so i think/thought) and i was gettin a healthy report and performance from hard drive cgecker program (name escapes me)

is this the gard drive actin up again or something worse?

Could be the hard drive if you were having trouble with it in the past. I'd try swapping it into another computer and seeing if you have the same trouble. Also try another known working HDD in your machine to rule out the possibility of it being any other component.

If you find that Windows "bootloops" you may want to try running recovery console from the Windows XP disc and running a chkdsk - it may turn up something untoward that could have been niggling on the drive...

Why not take out the hard drive and see if it reboots still.Did you try another hard drive?Another psu?

try as repair install, i find them troublesome, but it might be okay for you. Another thing is, check alll cables are connected inside the pc.

You can also try moving the hdd to a seperate ide chan, Ie. swap the cable to the one your dvd drive is in.
