PT, FT + PAHUD - Slow for anyone?

Lads, I've been multi tabling over at Full Tilt on low stakes cash games, running PT, and PAHUD at the same time.

When I ask Poker Tracker to import hands from FT it slows down to a dog, the tables freeze, Poker Tracker Freezes, then about 1-2 minutes later everything pops back up ok, but I've missed a couple of hands and am now sitting out!

Anyone have similar problems? On Stars I have it set to import hands every 2-3 minutes, and it never causes my system to near crash and play never gets interupted. Is it just my PC getting a bit old and FT using more resources than other programs?

    Thanks
    Peeko

I never have any problems getting FT hands imported, even when multitabling with Stars tables too and autoimporting every minute.

My system isn't that old, it has 768mb Ram, and is running feck all else. My PT DB is getting big in size though 1.5gigs. Could it be that?

    How many hands is that?

Not that many, 25k. I think I'm saving the hand history also.

I should not have said my PT DB is 1.5gigs, I should of said the program direcroty entry is 1.5 gigs. I think this includes a back up for when you compact your DB, but I'm not 100% sure tbh

Ok my PT directory is only 105MB, and I've 53k hands in the Party DB alone.
I've been backing up the DB every 10k hands and compacting it when prompted to. Are you running the DB in Access or postgres?

When you load up PT and set it to import hands, check the directory that you have specified for "Move files to the following folder when..." , maybe there's a billion old hand histories in their that PT is trying to import every time.

    105MB's? Sheeet.

I have the files beng moved to a C:\Temp\ Folder that I delete all the time. It's the actual mdb files (I'm using access) that are so big. I think I have 2 that are 500mbs and 2 that are about 250mb's. I compact all the time (when promted).

I'll have to have a closer look at it when I get home. 1.5gigs is crazy compared to 105MB, and could well be the reason that Full Tilt hangs...

    Peeko -

I also use PT and PAHUD on FT

I've moved from Party to Full Tilt recently and am getting problems also. Full Tilt slows down and has problem displaying certain buttons etc.. I've re-installed everything and the problem recurrs.

No issue back at Party (other than no one's home!) so given your issues also I think it might be a Full Tilt / PT / PAHUD issue???

How big are your DB's paul? I think having to access 1.5gigs of infomation is my problem. Am going to have a closer look when I get home, do some searching on the PT forums. When I figure it out I'll let you know.

You could convert to postgres database, apparently it's quicker and more stable than the regular Access db's. I don't really understand how it works from a tech side of things, but it's meant to be 'better'.

    Link to installation.
Once you have it installed you can convert your current DB to postgres type, it's a bit tricky to do so I take no responsibility if it all goes pear shaped!

I had the same problems even with postgres db. If you go into windows task manager and go to processes, then right click the pokertracker.exe process and set priority to low, it should sort it the tables freezing issue, and pokertracker still works fine.

Thanks for the quick fix, will give this a try also, but I think overall there is a problem somewhere that can be fixed.

Laf, what type of system are you running? And are you on prestige?

Standard Dell desktop, Intel 3.0Ghz, 1 gig ram, and running postgres DB's.

    Sorry meant to say postgres!

Make sure you don't have the 'Enable Logging' bit clicked in the improt window. That slows down importing alot.

    Thats off allright flibble

But seting the system process to low priority has sorted it right out. No lag at all, great quick fix Vamos, cheers.

Does anyone else have massive DB's like me? Laf, is it the postgres that makes the DB's a lot smaller?

Postgres doesn't make them a whole lot smaller. MySQL can only handle a database up to 2GB so this seems to be the point when people move to postgres. You need you HD formatted in NTFS for postgres. My DB is about 2.5gb (1.1M hands - not all mine!). I've spoken to people with databases of 90GB+, and their computers seem to handle them ok.

think I'll give it a lash, if it can only handle 2gigs then I might aswell jump ship now. 1.5gigs for 25k hands is a bit ridiculous.

Which files are showing up as being huge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

My DB is about 1.5Gigs too but I've at least 600k hands in it (again not all mine),

Hey Flibble does it take your computer long to Compact the DB and HH's?? Mine seems to take ages... I assume it's just the size of the DB but just incase

Yeah, it took ages. Postgre seems quicker and asks to be compacted less often.

I start a new db every 50k hands or so, you can still use all the data in pokerace from multiple dbs

Never thought of that, nice one HJ and I just had a look at PAHUD and it's so obvious, can't believe I didn't think of it before.

alltogether it's 4 mdb files. I started converting everything to Postgres last night, so we'll see how it this afternoon. Setting the system process to low priority really fixed things up though with regards to the FT tables hanging.

I was data mining Party for a while, so I've probably more hands than the initial 25k I've mentioned. (I assume it's this or sharing DB's that Ste and MrF are refering to when they say 'not all mine'? How do I find out how many hands I've in the DB alltogether?)
