Conspiracy to keep me from playing for cash!

I've been playing free games for a while now and have been desperate to get into my first cash game but every time I go to get into one, something happens to prevent me from it.

I downloaded the Paddy Power client first and although I don't have a credit card, I saw that you can get Paddy Power gift cards in Spar stores. So after, checking my local to see that they didn't have them, I decided to check in a Paddy Power branch only to find out that they don't stock gift cards for their own site which I found very puzzling.

The person at the counter told me that they thought the Spar in Blackrock sold them and off I was again on another adventure.

Sure enough, after much searching from a confused Spar staff member, he produced the only gift card they had, one for 50 euro, of course in my pocket I only had 45 and nothing in the ATM due to starting a new job where I don't get paid till the end of the month.

Defeated I went home and was informed that there was a tournament starting in my Dad's pub the Gallops every Wednesday, so I go down for the first night and lo and behold, not enough people turn up so the whole thing is called off.

This time however, I have 50 euro on me and decide to make the track out to Blackrock again which seems to be the only Spar that stocks the cards only to find that they are now sold out!

And that is where my story is at for the moment, although when in Blackrock I spotted that the Wicked Wolf have a tournament on Tuesday nights so I may yet have another chapter to add in my quest to blow my money in my first cash game. It's a conspiracy I tells ya!

You could have just lodged money in the PaddyPower.

I told the person who I was speaking with exactly what I wanted the gift card for and they made no mention that you could lodge there.

Whenever Ive lodged there I've had to insist that it was possible and made them get back on the phone to sort it. Theyll keep asking for your acc number, tell them that you only need/have a username and thats enough.

Yes anything thats not a bet on a horse, dog or football match often creates puzzlement and confusion. You have to insist they get on the phone to ring head office(dont use the term Head Office yourself). Be warned. You will probably be met with a frown if your forced to ask they they ring but shur....

If you want to reduce the chance of coming up against the frown go over to the lone 'collect here' window. The collect here window is to the right of the 'Bet here'......'Bet Here'......'Bet Here'....'Bet Here......'Bet Here' windows. There will more than likely be a woman punching figures into a calculator sitting a little bit back from this window. This is the bet settler and the bet settler traditionally knows her stuff more than anyone else. You have to wait until she is good and ready but she will usually greet you with a 'yes love' type remark. What your doing now is bypassing the 'bet here' clerks but this is ok it cuts to the chase a bit quicker.

Ask her that you'd like to make an online sportsbook deposit as you hand her the docket. Have your betting docket or piece of paper filled out listing your username, your full name and the amount you want to deposit. If you use a betting docket to fill in these details write them on the bottom copy(yellow) Because if its the top copy(white) a clerk behind one of the 'Bet Here' windows will think your a misguided John that wants to place a bet and has wandered to the wrong window when they see the white part. By filling out the yellow part you rule this misunderstanding out as the 'bet here' tellers will think your collecting on a docket. If its one of those white only dockets then you'll just have to ride your luck.

    Good luck

half the shops dont have a clue you can deposit there. those gift cards are getting the chop. they're a nightmare.
all u need is your account username. NOT ur poker screen name.
They're a pain in the ass

Wait til he gets his first bad beat, phones up the samaritans who will probably hang up on him the way his luck is going.

    !

Dont mean to sound condescending or anything but if your not paid till the end of the month and only have 45 quid you probably have larger concerns than wether or PPP will let you gamble it away.

sign up to pokerstars, send me your user name and I will send you $10... easy... (not a lot, but hey, enough to have a little punt!)

(make sure you fill in all your postal details, valid email address, etc etc otherwise the money won't go through!)

When you start making you can pay me back, if you loose it no worries! :)

better than a couple of trips to blackrock

Nothing else to spend it on, don't drink, don't smoke, don't go to pubs/clubs much and still live at home. I usually end up spending it on DVDs/CDs that I never look at again or on an early morning Red Bull before work. I'm looking to gamble it now because I know I have money on the way, and have actually set aside a portion for gambling.

Jesus man, you sound like you should start drinking and possibly start experimenting in narcotics as well.

    second that

I'm not easily shocked but the thought of a non-drinking, non-smoking, non-drug-munching, non-womanising, live-at-home poker player with no credit card is pretty freaky.....

not really but maybe it's just me...I totally distrust people who don't smoke, drink or take drugs

imho they are usually total deviants of the worst sort

Finally played my first cash game in the Wicked Wolf tonight, won 4 hands, only one worth anything serious and split another and went out slow playing a pair of Queens against a flopped straight.

Got tripped up on etiquette a lot, things like burn cards on dealing which the comp usually handles took me a while to get used to, but I'm wiser now with a 70 euro lesson.
