Does anyone here watch Jimmy Hill's Sunday supplement and if so what do you think of it.

Personally, I find Hill a bit of bumbling old foogie who is out of touch with the modern game but, most of Sunday journos they have on are particluarly good especially Oliver Holt who see's things as they are without a bias that many panelists on all programmes seem to have.

I'd love to see Dunphy on there some Sunday mixing it up.

I'd pretty much agree with all you've said there.Including the Dunphy part, that would be a laugh, though i think they might want to show it a bit later if he was on it!

Holt has been very good any time ive seen him on the show.

My thought exactly. You look at him and nod with smile thru your teeth thinking "what a gowl"

It was way better as 'Hold The Back Page' on a friday evening. No Jimmy Hill or plastic croisants in his make believe kitchen back then.

The football journos are Sky's only concession to decent punditry, but still they feel obliged to dress it up in some kitsch setting and dilute it with Hill's moronic presence. Typical.

Watched it last Sunday and have to say that I wasn't too impressed. The journalists seem to take it as an opportunity to slate rival publications rather than concentrate on the football.

Don't like hill, like the other guys tho. Hill says some stupid things and the boys hoot him down most of the times.

    Interesting to hear peoples view.

I have noticed as of late though that the Journo's have been treating him less like an embarassig uncle an more like a foolish teenager. I think it was 3 weeks ago when they were down right lambasting him for his somewhat xenophobic attitude that the English team performs poorly because of the amount of foreign players in the Premiership.

There are one or two journos that they get on that are poor and I don't understand why they don't stick with the best each week which in my view would be Oliver holt, Martin Samuel and this guy who's name I cannot remember. He is quiet young maybe 27-30, rotund with a bit of a piggy face but is very insightful and unbiased.

The time of the show isn't the best and I often used to miss it but Sky+ came into my life and all those problems were banished  Anyone else that Sky+ it get frustrated that unexplainably there is no series link for it!?

I don't have an opinion on the show one way or another, as I rarely, if ever, watch it, but I have to say, I love the word 'Gowl'. Alas, I never use it, as I think it only sounds good when spoken with a Munster accent.

Is Henry Winter from the telegraph ever on it anymore? He always brings a bit of public school boy refinery to the whole proceedings.

He is indeed. you just reminded me of the most unrefined lout on the show, Shawn Custis, big mouthy geordie who writes for the sun.

Ha! I Haven't seen in a while, but from memory a couple of the lads look a bit shapey alright; mostly the tabloid hacks it must be said. And Joe Lovejoy who always looks like he spent the night in an ashtry. But these guys are the best for the scurrilous rumours.

They are generally big, or shady looking but I guess that's what numerous years of working on Fleet Street gets you.

The beard on Martin Samuel rivals Saint Nic himself.

Its a program I enjoy. Unlike everyone else, I like Jimmy Hill in it. You'd often get the three journos agreeing with each other and Hill disagreeing. He adds balance. Particularly on the England issue. The journos generally say "we're" crap because of the manager. Jimmy says "we're" crap because we dont have the players.

In fairness though, without going off topic too much, they do have a massive squad of highly talented players. I mean there is some talk of a shortage of options up front for them at the moment. This is considering that they have Rooney, Crouch, johnson, Bent, Defoe and then if they were badly stuck, the likes of Beattie, Walcott, Heskey, Harewood. They also have the likes of Ashton and Owen to come back into the picture. Without even mentioning some of their u-21 options.

What have we got? An underperforming Robbie Keane and an inexpeirenced Kevin Doyle (although with time, could be excellent for us).

Look at all the midfield options they have. I think that has been there problem under Sven and recently McClaren, that they have too many options and players to play. However a good enough manager should be able to utilise this to his advantage instead of it being a problem

I think Jimmy is a bit too old school sometimes and maybe sympatises with the stick a managers gets because he himslef used to be one. As for player power, to some the degree the blame lies with Mr. Hill who managed to get the wage cap lifted.

Also, as I noted above, I think there is an underlying xenophobic tone in Hill's argument that the national team is poor becasue of the influx of foreign players. This makes absolutley no sense to me.

The big influx of foreign players occurred just after the premisership started and got bigger and bigger. Now, the England squad has one of the biggest and best selsections of players that it has had in decades (how can hill then argue that foregin palyers are ruining the national tema!!??) I can only corrolate this to the fact that so many of these players are playing with foregin players and being coached by foreign managers. It has often been said that when many of the continental players first came to the Premiership a chnage in dietry habits and approach to drink occured and, an all round better standard of professionalism was introduced. It is only about 15 years ago where players could have a fry the morning of the match and a brandy at half time. Can you imagine this happening today?? I think undoubtedly, the foreign influx had a big influence on this turn around.
