Anyone know if its possible to extract a PDF file to enter text in it on a word programme. I received an application form in the PDF format and I want to type in my criteria in MS Word. It seems to be a protected file so I cant enter it in directly on the pdf file itself.

Anyone know what options are available for me?
    Cheers

the latest version of acrobat reader allows it to some extent. but the formating comes out crap.

    Can you not just:

    print it off
    fill in form
    scan
convert to *.pdf (I use Open Office for this)

It'll do the job. Be faster than looking for some program. There are programs out there that rip text from *.pdf files but they are complete crap, take my word for it.

You need to get yourself a pdf to word convertor

Do a google search and I'm sure you'll find more of them. Most of them you have to pay for, but if you just want to use it a couple of times, the trial versions should let you do this (ie. let you convert a max of 50 pdf's).

It all depends on the original used to create the pdf - if the original are scanned pages for instance, i.e. image files, no conversion program will be able to extract the text.
Most OCR programs nowadays will convert direct from pdf, however, I always found the results questionable to say the least. In an attempt to recreate the original layout, they create overy complex word files with lots of little frames etc. and any words it cannot read 100% turns up as goggledigook and you usually spend more time cleaning up the file.
In that respect pdf's are pain in the behind ...
