I might aswell be the first to say it. Would you consider building your own?

for the love of sweat diabetic monkeys. Dont throw that money to dell, build your own. You will get alot better value for money. If you ready through some older topics you will see we do this every few days.

I have thought about building my own machine but i dont know how. Where is a good place to buy the components?

Absolutely build your own. You'd get a MUCH better machine for much less cost. And we're talking a very decent flat panel in there too...honest.

If you don't wish to build your own, then get someone to build one for you. There's a guy I know who built my own machine and got me interested in building PCs. If you want, I can give you his email address etc.

If you're dubious about costings, then look at eLara or Komplett for pricings.
Add the components the Dell has (as much as you can) to a basket and compare the pricing.

Many boardsies use Komplett for parts, they even have a configuration tool on their website where you can go ahead and add the components you wish. That way you can make it future proof, unlike the Dell you purchase. :) Just pick a few things and then post them back up here to get advice. With that budget, you will have a decent machine and money to spare.

What they all said....Build your own. Its just expensive lego, just clips together. Pick a few parts and post them here for peeps to give advise, or better still give us a budget and we'll spec to your budget.

    ROFL
This was always my favourite part of Comp/Tech... until it got predictable & boring.
And it always started with "Hey I was thinking of buying this Dell:
    • (insert copy-pasted Dell parts list with muchos mumbo-jumbo)
    What you all think?"
Followed by the inevitable "build your own", "how much you willing to spend", "have you a monitor" answers. And of course the AMD/Intel & Ati/nVidia comparism wars :D

If you have 2500 to spend, and you're not massively comfortable with computers and you just want it to work....hell....get the XPS tbh.

Yes, that's right computa geeks. I said it. :D

The main disadvantage is that they have a limited upgradability. Apart from that, they're decent enough machines. (I should point out that I wouldn't buy one myself. I will always self build. I have recommended them before though.)

If you're interested in learning, self build ftw.

But surely there's gotta be better system builders than Dell -- at least for a €2500-ish gaming PC.

Anyway, I always thought the whole point of a custom rig was to show off when you brought it to a LAN party; ie, having an outrageous/modded case with hand-picked components to give it that uber-l33t factor.

It's like turning up at a knife-fight with your own hand-crafted katana... pure intimidation & respect before the fight even begins ;)

(Disclaimer: Kiki doesn't play PC games... at least not at LAN parties!)

I think that ankermann site does pretty good deals. Don't have to put it together, but you pick mobo, cpu, ram etc. Noticed the site being mentioned favourably on the computers/tech forum before too.

Pah, if you really wanna throw your money away

    XPS are for wussies

p.s. I know Dell own them these days
p.p.s. Komplett do pretty good pc builds these days
p.p.p.s. Don't buy a pc with a tag on it (i.e. XPS or Alienware) or any such like, they're probably gonna charge you around 200 just for the tag, money that could be well spent on what matters.... Flashey LEDS and coloured pipes ;)

Why not just buy a Dell dimension & upgrade yourself, get the gpu & ram from Komplett. You'll save money that way.
Believe me, I bought a Dell Xps before (I kno, I kno, was convinced in2 it), you'd be suprised how quick they fall in value & how little upgrading you can do on 1. Psu's are usually crappy, there is litttle or no airflow & they can never be overclocked for better performance.
