anyone here particularly familiar with nsr 75 carb? its been sitting out my back for a while now, and i started it up today, it will idle away grand, but the minute i pull back the throttle it cuts out. sometimes i can get it to 6000revs but then it starts to chug and cuts out. someone suggested that i drain the carb? is this as simple as turnin a screw or do you have to take the whole thing apart?
any suggestions greatly appreciated...before i throw the thing in to the river.
    Rach.

it's just a simple turn of a screw. Some other sites have much better knowledge of this stuff so you might be better talking to them.

I don't see the point in draining the carb. If it was cutting out because the float was flooded, it really probably wouldn't start at all.
If you wanna muck around with it take off the airbox and try to start it without the airbox. They shouldn't be run on the road without an airbox but because of the low cc's, the airbox is somewhat restrictive on the little engine.
If after you've removed the airbox it still has the same problem (leave it idle for a few minutes) then you have carb problems, grab some carb cleaner spray from an autofactors and spray it directly into the bell mouth when the bike is running. It would clean out any clogged jets as opposed to taking off the carb and cleaning it manually.

If you don't want to do any of this, grab someone who knows about mechanics or an actual mechanic. They're a very easy bike to fix.

Try draining it first , there's usually a small screw at the bottom of the bowl,or a nut underneath it. If not , just give it a quick strip n clean.
It could be ignition probs , have seen corroded kill switches/ignition switches cause stuff like that , disconnect both and give it a try first.

I know this sounds obvious, but have you checked the plug? Take it out and give it a clean with a wire brush or light sandpaper (better yet, buy a new one). An oiled plug normally means it wouldn't idle properly, so it might not be that, but always start with the easy fix just in case. If it works, it'll save hours rooting at the carb. I really recommend just buying the spray rather than taking the carb out. It's a delicate thing to go at if you're not sure what you're at (maybe you do, I wouldn't be too sure myself.)

Spraying stuff into 2 strokes isn't really a great idea tbh, anyway it won't clean stuff from the bowl of the carb, tis an easy job anyway
