Is Ms Cashman , the ex U2 stylist , just another example of 21 century greed ?
Or is Bono just wrapped up in a "pathetic lifestyle" , as he was accused of yesterday in court .

I go with the former, and see a greedy golddigger on the make !!
If anything I'm a wee bit jealous of this "pathetic lifestyle"

Its a bit of both in this case.

Bono: always wrapped up in the "pathetic lifestyle" vs. Cashman: just looking to make a quickbuck

Thats all iv to say on it, i dont pay attention to it really

Looks like somebodys stolen the "S" from her name in the thread title. Pighead reckons another courtcase is imminent. Edit it quickly thebaz.

She didnt say pathetic lifestyle, she said something which sounded like it, Bono misheard and stated his life is far from pathetic.

Petty might be a better word. Jesus, so she stole his stetson. How many silly hats does a man need? (we`re talking about a guy who once forgot his hat in Dublin after flying out for a charity gig in Italy, and spent a few grand flying it in in time for the concert the same day)

Cashman trying to make a quick buck.

If I were Bono I'd take her to the courts too, it's not her stuff and she had no right to sell it. It's not the money, it's the principle.

I hope she can afford the legal costs, I know Bono sure can! :D

Normally i would side with the victim in this sort of a situation. But lets remember that Bono moved his assets overseas to avoid paying taxes. He's basically stealing from the population of Ireland legally. He saves thousands every year on taxes and makes a tiff about this. Plus he is costing our courts money, petty or what.

Let's also remember Bono's immmense acts of charity......

Your wan: Oppertunist who's tryin to make a quick buck

Bono: Petty about his hat, but justified in not wanting people profiting from his name.....kinda.

Bottom line, sell the hat and give the money to u2 on the condition that they only play old music at concerts from now on instead of their new rubbish

What? Asking our governments to clear third world debt? Governments who we pay tax to and he doesn't.

He's paid more tax than you and I ever will, and anyway he gives money directly to charity too.

I know they didn't know it was missing, but it's one thing to keep them as souvenirs or somethin, it's somethin else much sneakier to try and sell them.

    Who really cares?

Here we have the classic Famous Irish Person Syndrome!
Some footballer playing for a foreign team or rock star blaring out boring music or sumo wrestler who is going to take Japan by storm and we get out our collective regalia! The oul flag, Celtic shirt etc. to show our pride in our nationality. Jaysus, what a nation of losers we are.

U2, Roy Keane, James Joyce, JFK et al are not universally to everyone's taste and why the have to be crammed down our throats stumps me.

    It's all me old hat.

 How exactly does that make us a nation of losers? Ok, I dont like Roy Keane, U2 or James Joyce, but there's no harm in people being proud of those who do what they do well. I do partially agree that Global Oirishness is a bit over the top and quite often laughable, but losers is not a fair comment.

I would imagine that one should be proud of personal achievements not those of others. This is akin to the Irish Political The Opposition Are Even Worse Syndrome, where the current opposition have not been in power so we shouldn't judge them on previous players.

Now if someone stole Mercury's vest or Young's shorts and school cap I'd start worrying. :D

I'm wondering what Ferguson is doing without Roy Keane these days?

He hasn't paid "proportionately" more than most people in Ireland though, has he? And he certainly won't be paying any tax over the next few years if this move to Holland goes through.

To call Bono petty in this case is a massive understatement. He didn't notice the items were gone, yet when this woman wants to sell them he suddenly wants them back? Jaysus even I have more serious things to be worrying about, and no company that I've founded recently shelled out $300m on a list of "Rich People".

Oh come on. That's some reasoning you're working with there. Can you imagine the taxes he'd have to pay here anyway? I've no bones about him being smart with his assets.

that a bit of a stupid question...."Can you imagine the taxes he'd have to pay here"

let me go out on a limb here.....would it be THE SAME TAXES THE REST OF HAS TO PAY...

    great point

If he lives and works in this country, he should pay tax, its that simple. Instead, himself and the other four are going out of their way to avoid it.

Why? So they can invest more in Forbes?

Well dont forget there was the tax exemptions for artists and those sort of people to encourage them to stay in Ireland. So he hadnt paid taxes over here for years ebfore either so more than likely hasnt paid as much tax as us. And if anyone comes back with "but that was because the government allowed it", then dont forget he's moving his assets abroad so he doesnt have to pay tax here. So he's actually paid quite little in tax

Yeah but given the amount of money he makes it would be huge in monetary terms.

Reading the Paul McCartney divorce thread and this reminded me of something. Back in the days of the Beatles and easier access to people like him, macca had someone take stuff from his gaff without his permission(fans he invited in I believe). What does he do? Calls a constable? Drag them into court? Nope. He writes a song(fixing a hole AFAIR) that ends up on Sgt Peppers. Sorted and he doesn't risk looking like an eejit(the acid coloured suits on the cover notwithstanding). Compare and contrast.

What does bono and his lot do.... Silly little court case which makes him look more like the self promoting titchy tetchy ego he appears to some when they could have a) ignored it or b) just paid her the small amount she was looking for at auction for such an important relic of their past. But no they spend serious money on a "point of principle". Yea right. I'd believe that to oblige. That was some dumb advice they must have taken. Probably from the same lawyers whose fat cheques they're writing now. PR disaster. Hell he could have like the scouse bloke written a classic song about it without the lazy lyrics of much of his recent oeuvre. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
