Jerusalem. Commanders of the French contingent of the United Nations force in Lebanon have warned that they might have to open fire if Israel Air Force warplanes continue their overflights in Lebanon, Defense Minister Amir Peretz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday, Israeli newspaper Haaretz informs.

Peretz said that nevertheless, Israel would continue to patrol the skies over Lebanon as long as United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 remained unfulfilled, adding that such operations were critical for the country's security, especially as the abducted IDF soldiers remain in Hezbollah custody and the transfer of arms continue.

From what I hear this is just the French trying to sell more A380 to the Arabs,Threatening Israel is always a good PR move in the ME. If they do enough of it they may get Iran to buy a few.

They'd better re-equip themselves a bit then. Right now, they've nothing bigger than Mistrale, which isn't going to reach high enough.

That said, the Italians have just announced that they're giving the Lebanese some Aster 15s.

This begining to sound like the US and Soviet Russia sponsoring other countries, to fight. In parenting, this is sometimes called "having your child live the life you wish you had"...

Not surprising, the Aster's have only started entering Italian service, that and the next thing you would see, would be an Iranian missile called flibby gibby super invisable infidal killer, which looks remarkably like the Aster:D

IRAN yesterday launched an unprecedented verbal attack against Europe, which it predicted “could get hurt” unless it halted its support for Israel.

As millions of Iranians took to the streets of the country’s cities to mark “Jerusalem Day”, an annual day of protest against Israel, President Ahmadinejad used the occasion to round on his detractors abroad.

Describing Israel’s leaders as a “bunch of terrorists”, he issued America and its Western allies with an ultimatum. Unless the West distanced itself from the Jewish state, he predicted that the Middle East would “take revenge”.

A simple google shows that France also uses the Aster and the EuroMissile (developed by Roland) you might want to check your sources on french capabilities.

I'd say Manic is talking about what the French have with them in Lebanon and not what they have in general use.
