Would it be possible to get who ever runs the show to let us type something [pkr]Kh 3d 4h 5h [/pkr] and get a K and a little heart etc drawn. or some smiley shortcut thing so we can get a spade for :s: or something.

Do you know what I mean?

I'll look into it but the problem is that its generally done through the smiley system and adding 52 new smileys might piss off the rest of the site users. We have to think about the overall site too... :(

maybe there's a way to make forum specific smileys..

But if we could get tags to take a variable number of cards it would be good - so you dont have to put a seperate tag around each card.

    Maybe just the four duits

Surely it wouldn't have to be 52 new smileys, just 17. I don't see how it would piss off the other forum users either, they just don't have to use them. It'd be very handy.

Actually yeah, that's all you'd need.

    You mean these: ?

    For Windows XP:
    • Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.
    • Select the suits (U-2660 through U-2666), click copy.
    • Paste in here, change color to red for hearts and diamonds.

Thats a funny looking diamond. What we need is a Tribeca Hand History Converter!

What is wrong with s,h,d,c? Not that much bother is it? Hand converters are awkward for people to read who are behind some sort of corporate nanny barrier, such as myself and Gholi at least.

    You the man jacQues.

What we want is something that we can paste in a Tribeca HH, copied from the dealer window or from the HH archieve that the Tribeca client saves (they're slightly different format as you are well aware - code reuse perhaps..) and convert it to something like this, see thread.
    Here's an example of one.

There are a few available for party and stars, but none for Tribeca HHs. You could add an advert to it. I can think of a product which is just right for the intended audience.

I would guess this is because where ever the suit pictures are stored on the net is blocked from your work?
If so, any new HH converter could store the images somewhere that isn't blocked.

LOL no. The method I used doesn't use any graphics at all. His browser settings are 'off'. For MSIE use View > Encoding > Auto select to correct it.

Also, I read the pm before your answer. Wrong order I guess since my questions are answered in here. I will make such converter for you later this week/month. Note that starting stacks won't "work" since they're not in the HH. Type it yourself for that so. For the rest, name conversion into hero and colours and such...not a problem. Do you want it to be a stand-alone program or a web page where you can generate it?

I was referring to the suits used by other HH convertes, not the ASCII (?) ones you used.

Web page version so no d/l necessary is best.

Right. That means that using Unicode is a much better solution.

Okay, the first version is complete (using copy/paste from the dealer window).

Its *FREE*, so anyone that is interested: http://www.gold-mine-poker.com/converter.html

I will write a second version that will accept the PokerTracker HHs as well when I have some time...

Off the top of my head, I don't see how to do it with tags (not straightforwardly at least), but if someone else does then I don't see why we wouldn't install the tag definitions.

Its *very* straightforward. Visit the URL above, paste the hand, then copy/paste the given code in box on here. Gives the HH in a readable format with suits...using tags.

I don't play on tribeca, so I don't know what bbcode that thing outputs exactly. Show me. Does it embed offsite images?

However, I assumed that Nicky was talking about setting it up here as a bbcode tag definition (i.e, answering the precise question asked in the first post) and answered accordingly. I can code that straightforwardly in php but I don't like hacking the code any more. I don't see how to define it straightforwardly as a custom tag using the admincp.

No images are needed, actually. Unicode includes the suits (♥ etc.)

So all that's needed is a script that rewrites a HH into a readable format. As for suits, sure you can (also/instead) use images. But its easier to use Unicode. A smily would be easiest in that respect. Just add the suits as smilies.

I'm really not sure if you're theorising or describing what you've already written. I still don't see how to provide a [noparse][pkr][/noparse] tag easily and we're not going to install a lot of smilies (see earlier posts).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

Why not create a new theme for the site called Poker (maybe just copy the default blue theme). Within this new theme you can then define custom smilies, tags and CSS classes that won't effect the rest of the site etc... http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16513

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 10,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭ecksor

Ooh, I wouldn't have thought of that. Has someone created a suitable theme already?

I had a quick look but couldn't find anything.... just a lot of requests to develop themes! You could just copy an existing one and make some very minor changes. wouldnt take long. You'd need to make a few smilies!

Is it possible to write PHP code specific to a theme? That could open a never ending list of possibilities... we could have a Gholi spellchecker and a Dom Sarcasm meter!:D

    Already written: www.gold-mine-poker.com/converter.html

As for smilies, you'd only need four... not really a lot IMHO. No tags needed. The smily will simply insert the correct Unicode symbol into the post.

ok. I haven't written html/xml in about 8 years but when I worked for a publishing company all we had to do to put in a symbol was a semi-colon and the tag. for example ;heart or ;spade so it would end up looking like [xml];diamond[/xml]. Obviously programming hasn't advanced much in 8 years. :)

That is correct. I proposed for the four suits to be added to the smilies list. Example copy/paste from this tool:

Hero is BB with K J, blinds are $20/$40, hand converted by Tribeca HH Converter.

Preflop: UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, LP1 folds, LP2 folds, button folds, SB calls, Hero checks, 9 handed.

    Flop: 5♦ J♣ 7♦ (pot $160; 4 players)
SB bets $80, Hero raises $160, UTG folds, MP1 folds, SB calls.

    Turn: 5♦ J♣ 7♦ 3♣ (pot $640; 2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $500, SB calls.

    River: 5♦ J♣ 7♦ 3♣ 9♠ (pot $1640; 2 players)
    SB bets $1494, Hero calls.

Just copied/pasted this from the high rollers table...
    Hero won with kicker lol

There's two things going on here...

    The hand converter:

The unicode character sets that JacQues is using are not installed on everybody's machines and so on some people's screens are showing up as empty square boxes. The answer I think is to do something similar to the existing hand converters where you host an image somewhere and reference it. The problem with the existing converters though is that the site where the image is hosted is not accessible to some people's work machines so the solution is to host the four suit images on boards somewhere. That way, if you have access to boards you have access to the images.

Re: general suit and card images for general use other than "converted hand histories"... I don't know much about it, but ocallagh's idea sounds good to me.

Looks good to me, but does your HH contain player holdings or is this a hand where you are not involved and do not know the holdings? Does the HH contain stack sizes?

It depends... (in the examples I wasn't involved)

When using a copy/paste from the dealer window...unfortunately no. That information is simply not provided in the dealer window. Its quite easy to type it in the post though, in addition to the HH made-readable.

When using a copy/paste from PT...definitely yes. However, I didn't do the PT format yet. I'll do that later this week / next week.
