    Nothing FTA from RTE.

Where does your dish point now?

13E and 19E are the next two interesting positions after 28.2E

For feedhunting you need motorised 110cm dish. A blindscan receiver is usefull, other wise you can mostly only type in details of feeds others have publicised on Internet.

There are about 28 satellites gettable in Ireland on 110cm dish & motor. All of these are "useful" for a particular person or interest. How usfull generally for you I don't know. Depends on your interests.

RTÉ1 are currently occasionally FTA with about 2 weeks on Intelsat 903 34W on 11.159GHz, Vertical, SR 3150. They usually broadcast at news time. Other times a testcard with "Studio 3" is displayed.

There are also occasional feeds for RTÉ on 34W but they are normally in the 4:2:2 format and therefore require a PCI DVB card to watch.

Yes this is correct it has been intermittently going FTA over the last while, It was discussed here

I tried today to pick up Intelsat 903 34W but without success and settled for Hispasat to see The Al Jazeera International Promo instead. My meter is a bit of a let down and I am considering investing in one of these new ones, Expensive yes, however I am an eager amateur sat head so I think it may be worth it. Any Boardsies got one of these??? I am thinking that if i get a two or three metre dish and motorise it that then eventually there should be something decent to watch on TV

A Promax 5 is overkill with a small dish. Moreover when it's not DVB-S2 compatible.

Something like a Spectralook would do just as well until you invest in a larger dish.

I dilemma. I need a do everything meter Zaphod, for Terrestrial Analogue, digital, cable, broadband and Satellite and possibly things I havn't thought of today. Not just dish / aerials but distribution systems and gadgets under develpoment , prototype diplexers and channel filters etc ...

The Promax Pro 4C seems a reasonable compromise but no DVB-S2 or MPEG4 on it yet.

A basic SatLook meter I find OK for satellite dish alignment. Some satellites though I have to ask it to show a channel list for transponder to see which one it is.

Watty, I don't know of any instrument which supports DVB-S2 yet. Promax are likely to be the first to market with such a device. The Prolink4C or the Explorer are the closest to your requirements. There are also the cheaper Combolook or Megalook from Emitor but they lack the bells and whistles on the Promax units.

Yes, I'll likely get the Premium 4C, with accessories such as Noise Generator (good for aligning filters etc). At IBC they said DVB-S2 is comming but if hold off too lng the boss might cahnge mind and I'll be held up in my work.

The Specralook with Maplin's 131 Euro 5" LCD TV and possibly a 12V camping receiver would be a good hobby combo to use at the dish. Use the camping receiver to check quality.

    Wally,

Go for the prolink 4c, as I said,
You pay for what you get.
I have th 3c for 2 years, and it does what I paid for,

    regards,
    a friend.
