    Death threat issued against Dempsey

    OK, hands up.. whodunnit?

On a more serious note, there really are some worringly crazy people out there. What sort of person sends a death threat, even if he/she has no intention of carrying it out? I've heard some pretty crazy things that politicians put up with, but this probably tops the list.

Ironically the news page had two large adverts for Eircom Broadband when I visited it!

The threat is believed to have been made in a telephone call to Mr Dempsey's office yesterday from a man claiming to support the Shell to Sea campaign.

    For the record

Ireland Offline condemns the threat made on Minister Dempsey’s life and offers its sympathies to Minister Dempsey’s family who must be understandably worried at this time.

Irrespective of minister or no minister, a death threat is a serious and nasty crime.

As a tactic it immediately hands over the moral high ground. Any good work done, any contacts built up, any reputation earned is wiped out.

    Stupid, dangerous and deservedly condemmed.

Did Dempsey not behave intemperately himself in escalating an already fraught situation when he accused certain Mayo people of being objectively worse than Paisleyites ....right about yesterday in fact ?????

A call on all parties to stand back from escalating their confrontation would be in order as well as the condemnation . Next thing you know is Dempsey will accuse ordinary people who email him asking for BB of being Paisleyites .

The same Dempsey did very little or nothing to Shell when they breached HIS ministerial consent and started to lay that pipeline last year.

The governments handling of this entire terminal/pipeline issue has been cack handed all along thereby leading to a situational vacumn in which ultra nimbies can actually sound more reasonable than those who are supposed to have and exercise a democratic mandate :(

Why does Noel not hop into his car and show some leadership, he has over 100 cops down there to protect him and is tasked with the overall national interest when it comes to natural resources. He already has more cops down there than there are nutters like the one who rang in .

Oh, he's far too busy for that, what with opening bypasses, attending constituency clinics, having his makeup done for photo-shoots, etc, etc, etc.

Actually doing something useful isn't in his job description.

Well he went on the road to face down the ASTI a few years back and did not have 100 + cops in situ at each venue that time. When the overall national interest requires that tangible steps are taken to ensure our collective energy security why does he hang about in Dublin or on the side of a bypass in Meath. Is he also afraid that the locals will drag their pairgains off the poles and scourge him with them ??? .

Does he fear that details of his historic and unprecedented excursion beyond the Pale will leak out in advance ??

Hop in the bloody car Noel and get down there and show some leadership . Thats by far the best answer you can give them right now ....and clean up that website like I told you :D

Yeah I imagine its over his Shell comments and Paisleyites.

He maybe a muppet IMO but nobody deserves that though but he should have had more cope on than to make those comments.

I don't think there is anything more to be said here and I think this thread hasn't a chance of staying on topic and should probably be locked.
