Channel five interference

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on my setup problem...

Just installed new Group A (Divis) and Group C/D Claremont Carn) aerials at the weekend. All channels are fine except channel five which has interfenence on it. There is like a 'grid' accross the channel. The quality of the picture seems to be fine except for the 'grid' interference. Its not that noticable but annoying none the less. Cant understand why this is happening as my brother who lives next door has no interference and he has his aerials in the loft with perfect pictures. I have a 4 way booster fitted in the loft which splits the signal in the loft to 4 tv points.

Receiving UK channels from Divis and Irish channels from Claremont Carn. I am located in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.

I have similar interference. See Wideband / DX aerials thread.

See if unpluging everything with RF outs / Modulators cures it.

Channel 5 is not broadcast from Divis, but from Black mountain and at lower power which explains the pooer reception.

Yeh sorry forgot about that. BTW isnt it stupid to have channel 5 on a seperate transmitter instead of transmitting it from divis? Anyway I'll try my setup without the booster to see what happens.

Five was not supposed to be terrestrial analogue at all, but Digital terrestrial only. Many relays don't carry it. This is why C5 was uniquely on analogue Satellite and practically the last UK channel switched off on 19E analogue. The masts and network were designed for 4 channels when there was only 3 channels.

Main reason for Channel 5 being on different sites from BBC, UTV and C4 is to do with mast ownership. In most (but no all I believe) cases the Channel 5 transmitters are based on Arquiva (NTL) masts. Divis is owned by NGT while Black Mountain is Arquiva.

In Derry City, it is co-sited with the other stations on Sherrif's Hill as Arquiva is the mast owner.
Five was not supposed to be terrestrial analogue at all, but Digital terrestrial only.
My belief is that the fifth network was planned on a quasi-national basis with the first round of applications back in the early 90's but were all rejected, with a winner the second time around. I doubt DTT was considered back for allocations in the late 80's/early 90's. In saying that, Five were successful in campagining in securing Channel E35 for use from several sites after its launch in improve ATT coverage. E35 was originally scheduled to be used for DTT.
