    Hi,
This is for a mate whos looking to buy a printer today in a bricks n morter shop in Dublin today. Its just for printing college stuff so nothing too fancy needed, but something that wont be too expensive to maintain in the future with cartridges/toner whatever. Is laser a lot cheaper than inkjet & Can someone recommend something?
    Thanks

Laser will be more expensive straight off that an inkjet, but provide a good saving in the long term. The ink for those other printers can be so expensive as to look like its made from the blood of mythical creatures, and is often sold quite sparingly. Its possible to get third party ink cheaper, and to have carts refilled, though the results can vary.

Mind you, if its something that won't be used often, then a laser could be overkill.

Don't quite agree with you there! If you are using an inkjet occasionally you run the risk of the ink drying in the nozzles! That can actually render the printer useless. If you succeed in unblocking the printer your cartridge will probably be empty from all the cleaning.

The B/W laser can be had for around the €100 mark. The toner will not dry out so the machine is always at the ready! An added bonus is that it is much faster.

Wow, I hadn't realised that domestic lasers were after getting so cheap. Thats a comparable price to an inkjet, last time I went shopping for a printer.

I got an Epson inkjet 3in1 fairly recently from a shop on Bachelor's Walk. The 3in1 (printer, scanner, photocopier) was €100 and the cartridges are €20 for the 4 - each colour is seperate. I've been a HP user for years but this printer is very good quality. I've printed out some excellent photos on it - borderless as well. And for black printing it's fairly fast too.

In the end he got a hp 3in1 from argos. Says it was €75 reduced from €90. Seems like a good deal. Cheers for the recommendations lads.
