Interesting theory brought up in the pre-season recap "A Tale Of Survival"

During the recap special that aired in the States before episode one of this season they seemed to cram 2 seasons worth of stories into 42 minutes with some excellent editing and production. So they must have just put in the most important bits of 44 episodes right?

If thats the case its curious that they included the scene where Hurley and Charlie are on the the beach and they pick up a station playing some 1930's music and Hurley made the comment along the lines of "forget where are we ..... when are we?"

It seems odd that producers chose this scene in an episode that was to remind us about what the key plotlines are before the new season. Thoughts?

I addressed that scene when the episode first aired over here - the radio station they pick up is simply a red herring used to distract us from Danielle's transmission which they pick up before the radio station and dismiss because they assume it's the same one they heard in "Pilot". If you listen to it, though, and can speak French, you'll notice that it is, in fact, a different transmission. I haven't watched the episode for a while so can't give you the exact translation but it is something along the lines of "Help us, we're trying to reach The Black Rock".

spoiler for people who haven't seen Series 3, Episode 2
the ending sequence to this episode disproves this theory

Now that this was shown on RTE are there any more thoughts?

Hmm ... noticed that they didn't play Danielle's message from this scene last night ... strange.

Nah... It was always like that. Shannon translated it incorrectly the first time around.

You've also got the fact that the music is by Glen Miller who was never seen again after his plane went missing during a flight to France.

Weird, don't ever remember hearing that line in "Pilot", the only bit I heard that Shannon didn't translate was the part about somebody having a key; will have to rewatch "Pilot" tonight, so.

Oh on further research it seems to change slightly each time... But I knew she always mentioned the black rock.

    Here they all are:

Iteration 17294530 : "...

    And from the later episode:

"ils vont nous aider" "nous allons aller au rocher noir"

The same music (Moonlight Serenade I think it is) was playing on Jack's car radio during his flashback

it changes ?? but its suppose to be on repeat??

just throw this in here, the fact that they can get tv pictures in doesnt mean they can communicate with the outside world right, they just receiving what evers been broadcast.

    translation:

If anyone can hear this, they are dead. Please help us! I am going to try to reach the Black Rock [it's strange that she translates this]. It/He killed them. It/He killed them all.

It/He is outside. It/He is outside and Brennan has taken the keys. Please help us. They are dead. They are all dead. Help us. They are dead.

from what i've gathered, the plot is purely scientifically based. but how hurley's magic with numbers, locke's spirituality, the ,ysterious black fog, or desmond's ability to predict future occurances can be scientifically explained, i don't know.

question: how, at the end of season 2, can the hatch implode/disappear and still have the hatch door fall from a great height? or is this a question on most people's tongues?

And a translation of the 2 from the later episode:

    "They want to help us"
"We go/are going to the Black Rock"

I too believe that it s quite interesting that she translated Black Rock

That would suggest to me that the "Black Rock" she's talking about is not the boat we saw at the end of S1 but a rock somewhere on the island that's black.

Are we sure the name of the person with the keys is Brennan? Can never quite make it out exactly, every time I listen to it I hear something different, e.g., Desmond, Brennan, Bernard. Someone told me there's an easter egg on the saeson 1 DVDs which gives a few iterations of the message; anyone know where?

Not only the door, Acri; it would appear that John, Eko & Desmond were also thrown out of the hatch. All I can think of is that there was an explosion when Desmond turned the key and, after the energy had been released, everything was pulled back in towards the source - think Big Bang style.

Back to the original posts point about hurleys comment.

Sayid said that radio waves of that frequency bounce off the ionosphere, and could be coming from anywhere. Hurley added "anytime" as they could of been bouncing around for ages.

The producers have said that we will find out how the hatch imloded later on in the series. When asked whether it will be through a flashback they said "Not exactly, its a lot more interesting than that". Either this is Desmond's future seeing and possible "time jumping" or the time on the island is about to jump around
