    Hi there,

I've been surfing sourceforge.net and freshmeat.net and even some endless hours on google looking for a decent movie/dvd software solution which will do the following:-

    1) Allow me to catalogue my DVD collection
    2) Provide loan/return functionality so I can track which one of my useless friends has my stuff
    3) Web based interface so I can do this from anywhere
    4) Intuitive search/download dvd-info functionality when adding movies (e.g. via IMDB, Amazon etc.)
    5) Decent query / search functionality

So far I've been unsuccessful in finding anything with the above attributes. Have any of you either found (hopefully) a nice opensource solution or (gulp) even gone as far as investing in a commercial product to do the same thing? Suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I use http://www.dvdaficionado.com/ to catalogue. not too sure if there is anything else there that might be of use to you,

Thanks for that. I took a look at it but it's similar to the IMDB and other "online services" variety in that they let you do lists, but don't allow you the loan/return functionality - which is something I really need because I've hundreds of DVDs and loads of stingy friends who keep borrowing and then I very quickly loose track of who has what.

Still hoping someone can help me source this puppy.

    I use notepad. :o

Got files on films that I've yet to watch, and so on.

You know, I didn't think about actually bothering to catalogue all my DVDs until I looked at this site but now that I look at it, I'm going to open an account so I don't have to stand in shops holding a DVD for 5mins while I think if I've already bought the DVD I'm holding or if I just meant to buy it.

I haaaaaaaaaate dvdaficionado's interface. Drove me insane.

    I use listal.com (http://thrillho.listal.com - that's me). It's got everything you're asking for and more.

    Things I like about it
    - It's free!
    - It's got a nice interface that makes tagging/rating items really simple.
    - It also handles your book, game and music collection.
    - it's under active development, and the developer is such a nice guy - you suggest a neat new feature on the forums and, if it's a good suggestion, it's usually implemented within a couple of days.
    - Blogger-friendly: you can export any part of your collection (e.g., the last five movies you watched) as an RSS feed to import into your blog.
    - More social than other similar sites, with the idea of 'friends' and 'groups'

    Things I don't like:
    - If you've got a large collection and haven't been using any other software, importing can be slowwwww. I think I started using the site at 700 DVDs and it took me about 4 hours to get them all in there.
    - Still hasn't got full export functionality yet (but it is promised).

Thanks. I'll check out that listal option and see how I get on.
