Can condensed milk actually be used as a substitute for normal milk, for example in tea? Would it be disgustingly sweet?

Yes - it's lovely in tea. Not too sweet at all and gives it a real 'comfort drink' flavour. Same cosy category as putting vanilla essence in your glass of milk, or adding extra butter to your mashed potatoes. Try it out!
