Utter waste of money

Two sets of road builders need to talk to one another, or at least be reasonable.

N18 Ennis bypass is just about to open. When the section to the south of this, the Newmarket on Fergus bypass, was built, they built the bridge and sliproad at the Ennis end, so the new project could simply start off without having to build a grade separated junction and disrupt traffic.

I dont know about the northern end of the Ennis bypass, but the Ennis - Gort scheme plans are on the Internet. At the Gort end they are going to put a roundabout, saying "This roundabout can be upgraded to a Grade Separated Junction at a later date". This bugs me. The Gort - Oranmore scheme will start then, presumably after the Ennis - Gort section. Its in planning. Whats the first thing they're going to have to do? Tear up the roundabout and fix the junction, causing traffic hell.

What is the point of this? It REALLY bugs me. Stop wasting the publics money building unnecessary roundabouts when they're only going to be used for a couple of years before being ripped up. Why not do what they did at the Newmarket on Fergus northern end, build the junction and the sliproads, and send traffic up the sliproads till the Gort - Oranmore section is built. FFS.

Dumb, really dumb. Think ahead people, and stop wasting our money on stupid things like this.

    Thoughts?

Just saw this on the way home.

Palermstonw bypass is been resurfaced again. It was done now more than a year ago. And a year before that it was done to put anti slip surface at junctions.

That means the road has been resurfaced 3 times in 3 years. A resurfacing should last a lot lot longer than that!

Agreed. The same thing is going to happen (or was originally anyway) with the tie in between the M7/M8 Y motorway at Urlingford and the Urlingford to Cashel road. A roundabout, which is a bit much considering the two will probably come in at the same time or within a year of each other.
