I didnt see any other thread round on the boards so thought it might be good to start one to see how many others are effected.

I got my xbox 360 about 3-4 months ago in HMV.
My self and my good mate decided to both get a console together for the laughs.
Anyway , He at the start had some trouble but over time seemed to sort its self out, mine was perfect at the start but began to get worse over time.

Right now , the thing that is happening is this.
When ever you are booting up the console or watching a DVD, game etc....etc.... the console will come to a halt , the screen will freeze with a checker board pattern overlayed on the screen.
Im confident that its not over heating and that its not the TV thats its been connected to .
ive no other choice but to call MS and get them to repair it .

From what I understand , i have a years warranty on it , so MS shud pick up the console , repair etc....etc..... for free. is that right??//

So anyway, im trying to call them on their number...

    Phone

Assistance by phone seven days a week:

    1 800 509 186

    or +353 12420758 from a mobile phone

    Hours of operation:
    Monday-Friday: 09:00-22:00
    Saturday: 09:00-20:00
    Sunday: 09:00-17:00

Option 1, Option 2 for Game Console.
Spoke to the agent who got me to register and asked some base questions.
So just need to phone back with a Serial number of the console and then the process can begin.

Ill keep you guys posted here so you know what to expect.

Well you bring up a point ....
The agent never asked when i bought the XBOX, so im wondering if and when do i have to produce a receipt, if so i cant find mine so i may have to refer to my credit card company to produce one.
    So far hasnt been asked.

Well every Xbox360 around is still in warantee so there's no need to check yet.

    Update:
Well i called them back , luckly i got the same guy as yesterday so gave him the call ref number. ( Always , Always get that before you end a call with ANY Call centre)
Gave my Serial number and he processed my request, he was decent guy so asked him a few questions , not being pushy etc....etc... as in the end He is helping me.
The call centre is based in or around London, and it was promised 15 day turn around time to have the xbox fixed, ive yet to see that.
Anyway , now all i need do is print out a form he is going to send to me , pop the xbox in to a plain box , stick the UPS form on it and call UPS to pick it up for me. Just waiting for the form to come thru on my email.
If you in this situation, always get a call ref number, talk to the agent on first name basis, makes them think you are their best friend and they will be more helpfull. Listen and confim what they are saying and say a prayer to the gods that it all goes well.

Currently waiting on the email that gives me all the details,
    First one reads like this.....
    English
Thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Care. We have received your request for service. Please prepare your console and follow the instructions provided by our customer service department. You will receive an e-mail as soon as the next step in the process has begun.

Oh and for those that are interested ,
    My xbox MFR Number: MFR:2006-01-13

    Let the Games begin.

There have been quite a few posts on this subject over the last few months and on the whole most people (myself included) have received top notch and fast repair service from MS. So, don't worry it is free, fairly painless and takes about a week to get it repaired. From the sounds of your fault it sounds like the video card could be knackered, that has happened a lot on the original batch.

My advice to anybody - Call MS at the 1st sign of crashing and get it replaced, after a year (coming up soon for the original launch machines) when that warranty expires it might be a little harder to get fixed...

Yup, MS were very helpful while on the phone and the console was only gone for about 5 working days while being repaired.
Mine was a launch machine, so a little worried about the warrenty being up.

I believe the extended warranty was only in the states, I think they only got a 3 or 6 month warranty compared to the year in Europe.
