    hi all,

have decided to buy a 40" LCD tv this week, and narrowed it down to a 40" sony bravia s-series, or a 40"" samsung LCD (model LE40R74B).

which one would be the better choice, as same prices?

which is better 40" lcd? 6 votes

Difficult choice really. Both use the same LCD panels though of course the chassis would differ in both.

The S series does have a nice picture on skyHD, though I do find the Samsung that bit more vivid. But then, I do like the styling of the Sony which they finally have got near right. The V series has a better picture, but also a higher price!

I've yet to hook up a U series Sony to a HD source.

Got the samsung in myself a few weeks back and really do recommend it. I think really to get the best from them you will need a HDTV picture so it should improve in time as that rolls out further. Some messing around with settings is needed, certainly dynamic contrasting needs to be turned off. Get a shock with that initially as it really messes up the picture. Just set mode to Cinema.

Don't know anything about Sony but don't really trust them anymore based on the way a few of the CRT's went.
